Question for a friend who is expecting. She failed the 1 hour, got a 145 (supposed to be 135 or lower) and that was even after they goofed and tested her 15 minutes late. So she's got the 3 hour coming up next week. They told her to eat high carb and add a chocolate bar on top of what she would normally eat for 3 days prior to the test. Really? I never had to do the 3 hour but that sounded off to me. If you took the 3 hour, did you have to change your diet for the days leading up to the test? Experiences, please!

I had to take the 3 hr (and had GD) and only had to fast the morning of. I would recommend NOT changing her diet because the test is to see how her body will naturally react to the sugar.
Thanks for the quick responses! She said her doctor's nurse told her this over the phone and she asked for clarification numerous times because it seemed weird to her as well. She asked me for advice and I just didn't know.

I can't tell if they're trying to purposely make her fail the test because she'll have so much sugar in her system or if they're trying to help her "cheat the system" by upping her baseline so high that the amount of glucose they give her seems like a drop in the bucket.
Either way not something I'd mess with. Having GD would suck, but having untreated GD could be dangerous.

I had the same thought, maybe they're trying to prep her to pass?? I was just shocked that's what they told her. Thanks for the input.
Heck no to that. I had to stop eating at midnight the night before. I mean if there's one sure way to fail it's that. Plus that can't be good for the body on top of all the sugar in the glucose test.
I agree! It seems so wrong to do that to yourself in general, let alone when pregnant. But I just didn't know!
