STM - What additional things did you need for twins?

I have a 2.5 year old DS and I have friends that are insisting on throwing me a "sprinkle" for the twins (in their defense, none of them attended my first shower so it will be all new people/friends this time around). I'm really struggling with what I "need" for twins that I don't already have from having a toddler already. I have already purchased a 2nd infant car seat, 2nd crib, 2nd crib mattress, a Joovy twin roo, and twin breastfeeding pillow. I'm registering for more bottles, another bottle drying rack (need more space for more bottles!), but after that I have no idea what else I *need* for twins that I wouldn't already have from my DS. Any ideas?

What about the little things like clothing, blankets, sheets? A 2nd high chair?? Sippy cups? Bathing supplies like soaps, shampoos, and lotions? I had my twins first and then a singleton so I'm not sure if this is much help. Just throwing out suggestions.

We bought everything ourselves, but we got the second car seat, crib, high chair. I also got a second swing and later a second jumparoo. Blankets and clothes are always good. SOCKS for later, we've went through so many socks- I got a ton at Christmas and those were my favorite gifts for the girls. Carriers, we had one but got a second of a different type for versatility. Diapers. WIPES.

You can never have enough clothes.. Also as PPs have said diapers and wipes are also something you can never have enough of. Ask for all sizes just not newborn sizes. Buying for two can get expensive.

We really appreciate having two high chairs and our RnPs were a lifesaver when they were really small. They can be moved anywhere and they don't take up a lot of space.

Re: clothes, I found I never actually 'dressed' my boys in the first few months- it was way too much work unless it was a special occassion. They wear sleepers all the grime. So we did have too many nb/0-3 clothes (shirts, pants). But, getting clothes in larger sizes for later (up to 2 T has been great).
We CD, so more CDs. A second bouncer. Swaddle sleep sacks. Dr. Browns formula pitcher.

I needed a second crib, second carseat, new nipples and liners for the bottles I was planning on reusing, a few new blankets so they have their own keepsakes....But really I didn't (and still don't) feel like just because it is twins I need to rebuy absolutely everything until I see how things go.

I'm a FTM registering now to b/g twins. I was just wondering, do you need more than one baby bathtub? I can't picture a scenario where I'm not bathing them 1 at a time when they're infants, but then again, there are a lot of things I still can't picture.

Also, did you exclusively use double strollers, or is it sometimes better to have 2 separate light weight strollers?

We did one tub and bathed each one individually until about 9 months. At that point they were sitting up well on their own and we put them in the big tub together.

We exclusively used our double stroller when out with the twins. I did get a cheap single umbrella stroller for daycare pickup though. DH dropped off and he had the double. I would carry one an put the other in the stroller.

We have one tub, they bathe separate. When they get older they may bathe together, once they can sit well. During the floppy stage though, nope.

We use our double strollers only. We have a single stroller and umbrella stroller from DS, but haven't used them since the twins were born. We never go anywhere without both babies though, and it's easier to push them together. We have a toddler too, and someone has to be designated tornado wrangler, so that just makes it even more impractical. I think that if that situation arises you could always revisit it, but it's probably not necessary and would create more clutter.

Consumables are always good: diapers, wipes, shampoo, body wash, lotion, infants pain reliever, gas drops, little noses, etc.

I had a girl first and my twins are boys, so I needed clothes. We went through an obscene amount of burp cloths, bibs, and receiving blankets daily.

Extra sheets, swaddle wraps, wearable blankets?

As far as gear other than what you've listed, we ended up with a second high chair, boppy, pack n play, and excersaucer. We only had one swing and bouncy seat.

ETA: We also had two carriers (an ergo and a mei tai.) Sometimes it was easier for us to each wear a baby when we were out. I also sometimes wear one baby and carry the other for quick errands.

This was the approach we took and it worked well for us. Diapers, wipes, and any consumable products are great gifts the second time around until your twins are here and you know what works best for each.
