So often I read threads on here that ease my mind and remind me that I'm not the only mom to do some weird/ anxious/ odd thing. As a FTM its so great to hear that other moms are in the same boat.
What are your quirky things that you think others may/ may not be doing also?

Mine: I run out of things to say to LO during the day and start staring obvious facts (my hair is brown. that is your bed.) and sometimes nonsense syllables (blah blah. Beep bop boop.) Also Sometimes when I see older kids on TV I get super excited that LO won't always be so helpless. And sometimes when I see older kids on TV I freak the fuck out that she's growing and won't always be my tiny bean.
gradschoolmama Stating the obvious is great for language development, keep up that talk!
Me: not so much this time around, but with DD#1 I was obsessed with poop. Frequency, texture, scent. I tracked and worried. Some was substantiated when we realized at almost 2 years old she had mild lactose intolerance and her bowel issues completely stopped, but yeah, I was obsessed with poop. Never could I have imagined I would care about another persons poop so much.
gradschoolmama We went out to a college gymnastics meet yesterday. It was our first time just the two of us since the baby. I kept cooing over all the little toddler boys and saying that I wished we had one of those. And then I came home, got all cuddled up with my munchkin and was glad he was still my little cuddly milk monster. So totally the same about wanting him to grow up but wanting him to stay the same.
One of my quirks... The cats show no interest in the boy and the boy shows no interest in the cats but every day I walk him around to all three and take his hand and have him pet them. I'm hoping it will help the cats adjust since they are definitely sad he is taking so much of our time. It probably does absolutely nothing. Soon enough though, he will be chasing after them and grabbing their fur and tails so I guess I should enjoy the disinterest while it lasts!
I'm pretty sure LO is going to think her name is BAYYYBEEEEEE because that's what I say to her all the time. But I don't talk baby talk in any other way, it's just peppered in with my normal speech and inflection.
Also I compulsively wash her pacifiers all day. Probably 50 times a day. If it falls/gets set anywhere that is not an approved surface (basically just on LO or right next to her) I have to go wash it. Such a FTM thing to do, I know.
gradschoolmama I do the same thing when talking during the day. A couple days ago I explained what order the months are in and things of note in each one just because he seemed happy to hear my voice.
I have found myself texting and sending pics to my husband during his work day of two varieties. One type is "look how cute"/"look how well we are doing and how much I'm getting done". The others are pleas for sympathy and pleading for backup such as a picture of LO sleeping on top of my boob with a pacifier after another failed breastfeeding attempt or I'll mention the pathetic combo of foods I managed for lunch in hopes that he'll take on dinner.
I have waaay too many nicknames for LO, so I make sure I call him by his real name. I'm afraid that he is going to think his name is Señor Poopy Pants, bubba, booger butt, love of my life, binkie, etc.
So much this. My LO will prolly think her name is Lady Bird, Little Bear, Muffin, Monster, or "wee heathen" in a Scottish accent of course!
Love explaining the concept of just in case to the kiddo, this cracked me up and I'll hafta do it my LO soon. "Yep mommy wore this dress to prom but just in case she's this size again and has a fancy place to go..."
I find comfort in all the threads, too! One day "Bug" came out of my mouth when talking to LO, so he probably thinks his name is "Bug," "Buggy," and/or "Handsome Devil" and wonders who the eff this "Miles" dude is that mommy mentions sometimes. I also have full on conversations with him and narrate what I do, all for language development and entertainment. I also give explanations for things in doing, such as why I'm washing under his neck (that's where he hides the milk), his hands (that's where he snuggles the lint and cat hair), etc. I have major feelings of guilt for any downtime I give him, like putting him in the swing or bouncy, so I can, you know, eat. Or poop. Or pump.
I read the threads for comfort too, and feel guilty not putting her down. When she gets in her "I'm only happy if you're holding me and moving at the same time" mood, I'll put on Pandora and sing and away. I sometimes worry if I'm on a station that isn't for children, but I can only sing about spiders, stars, or farmers so many times before I start to twitch.
Is it bad that we have never once listened to children's music? We listen to music and I'll sing to her all the time, but it's all the music that I normally listen to. I mean, Jimi Hendrix has to be stimulating her brain just as much as baby songs, right? And the ped never specifies when he asks "Have you been playing music for baby and do you sing to her?" that it has to be child appropriate...

I do so many of these! Narrating every little thing I do, calling LO things like turtle and booger butt, reintroducing her to the cats daily even though they are indifferent to each other. Our quirk is that we make up or use existing songs for everything. If wr are doing bicycle kicks to relieve gas then we're singing Queen's Bicycle Race. After a bath it's Outkast's So Fresh and So Clean. We have made up songs about hiccups, and poop, and boobie milk. The list goes on and on and on.

I love all of these! I know I look so silly when it's just the two of us. I get embarrassed when DH is around and my songs and conversations aren't as good.
I love to talk and sing to LO. However, I caught myself singing over and over, that I heard on friends at like 4am on a night that LO kept peeing through his diaper,"What you want is a dingle, what you envy is a schwang! Something from which you can tingle, play with or just let hang!" LO thought it was amusing.

I also narrate what I am doing to my LO. This morning I was cooking and I told him the ingredients and what I was making. He seemed interested! He also likes when DH sings country songs to him. I call him many nicknames too and have to remind myself to use his actual name!
does anyone think their pump sounds like it's saying real words? I swear mine sounds like "ouch ouch ouch" at the beginning, and then it says my LOs name once it gets going. Lol
Hahah glad I'm not the only one! Mine says "grandpa moves grandpa moves grandpa moves". If I pump while DH is asleep he either says it with the pump half asleep or will say "Shit, do you have to turn on the grandpa moves right now?"
This should be saved for FFFC, but I also have sung Gin and Juice to LO when I have run out of songs in my head. I sing it really slowly, like a lullaby. I still feel bad telling him that there are "bitches in the living room getting it on".
So random, but I've sung that to my LO, too! I put a hat on him after his bath and always say he looks like a thug with it on. That song always pops into my head. change up the lyrics a bit though: "Rollin' down the street in my jammies / Sippin' on mom's boob juice / Laid back / With my mind on my bottle and my bottle on my mind." I can't help myself.

so glad I'm not the only one! I hear different things depending on how tired I am and how high the suction is. It often sounds like "I pump and pump and pump" with what my husband describes as a flamboyant Cajun accent.

All the talk about the random songs we sing our children made me realize I sing a rotating selection of songs based on my baby's onesie. A couple days ago he wore an outfit with monster feet and I kept singing the Monster Mash. He wore a ducky outfit and if was Rubber Ducky, You're the One. My fav though was he was wearing a shark outfit and I kept singing Mack the Knife. I honestly don't think about what songs I'm singing, they just pop into my head.
This morning, while pumping, I talked to my LO about the plight of the dairy cows, and how I hope that someone is kind enough to apply coconut oil to their sore, tired nipples.

I also have nick names for DD! The one I use the most is baby bird. When walking her around the house I like to show her what she looks like in a mirror and tell her how pretty she is. I also have conversations with her. I'll ask her what her favorite subject is in school, what color her prom dress will be, what sport she will want to play, stuff like that

Mine says "let down... let down... let down..." ;-)
