bocaburger how stressful. I feel like several airlines did alway with preboarding with small children/babies. I was told when we flew with DD that "it wasn't fair to first class ticket holders who paid more." I said that's fine but do we have to be zone 4 (last)? They said that's just where you got placed. Umm how about my kid is crying before boarding the plane bc she sees everyone else moving and doesn't understand waiting her turn at 1.5. Flying these days is so stressful.
Especially when today's recent events makes it even scarier (Ft lauderdale)
Honestly I think it's better for everyone if babies preboarding because then they're not schlepping all their stuff past people with crying babies... they can get them settled before other people board.
I just got seriously pissed at my ILs. I have been trying my very best all day to take care of babies as much as possible, despite still not feeling great (but nowhere near as bad as yesterday) because H has been really sick today. MIL has made a few snippy comments but I just chalked them up to being frustrated to be stuck inside all day on our vacation. She and SIL have been helping a bunch, but I've sort of gotten the feeling all day that they are annoyed each time I ask for help. FIL hurt himself and has been laying down all day, and BIL has pretty much been doing his own thing all day and not helping much with babies. And they're all happy to help when no one is crying, but hand them off as soon as they fuss, which is frustrating.
Anyway, the following conversation just really annoyed me:
H: What would we have done if Boca and I had been alone this week?
MIL: You just suck it up. FIL and I had that happen a few times. (Um, you and FIL did not have twins, thankyouverymuch. And also, there is a level of sick - which I hit last night and H hit today - where it is simply not safe to be holding babies.)
SIL: I think you guys are pretty much experiencing what I feel like every day. (Um, yes IBS sucks, but you do not feel like this every day. But thanks for invalidating our feelings and making it all about you.)
bocaburger umm there is a huge difference between traveling with 2 kids and 2 infants. 2 infants IMO would be so much harder. And it sucks that ILs seem annoyed to help. I hope it's just fatigue from traveling making them act that way.
Hmm. All of you have your kids in exersaucers so maybe I should not be weird about it? I was reading what age to do it and I read discouraging things until she could sit up on her own. Am I being too overprotective? Should I just go for it?
Youre not being overprotective, especially since from other posts i know your little one is a peanut. I work in early intervention so I hear physical therapists thoughts on all the baby equipment. The big thing for them is a baby being able to touch the ground flat footed (why people use books or something under them) and sit with support. If theyre not doing these things yet I guess it can encourage bad habits and possibly cause delays. This is of course not the case with all babies. Its just what PTs say.

I wasn't planning on using one until she's sitting up independently. Plus we don't have one and I don't want to buy anything until after we move at the end of the month. My mom's been giving me a hard time about it.

Hmmm. She can sit assisted and will stand on her feet flat footed. But she's still so small.
A question, unrelated to all my other complainy posts:
If you put the baby down in the PNP on their back and they roll onto their stomach, do you leave them that way? Or do you flip them over and risk waking them?
Now that my babies have started rolling I feel like I don't know any of the rules.
ETA: They sleep in wrapsacks/transitional swaddles with their arms out. They can roll in both directions, although right now G is really into rolling back-to-belly and not so into the other direction.

Leave them. I called the pedi panicking because DD1 would not only roll but face plant square on her nose. He said, "Did she get there herself? Do you have anything else in the crib? If yes and no, leave her." She started turning her head and peacefully tummy sleeping shortly after.

Ds2 is now 5 months and has amazing head control and sits fairly well unassisted. Ds1 did not have as much control over his torso/head, so I stuffed blankets around him and watched him like a hawk.
I know some people that used an exersaucer at 2 months, and that got a bit of the side eye because I feel like they are way too small and untrustworthy not to throw their head back.
Also, this morning our PT said to not go crazy with a ton of time in the jumperoo, as it's not totally ideal for development, but to use it for shorter amounts of time or when we need him contained (like while preparing dinner, etc).

If they do it themselves, let them be. Otherwise you'd probably spend the whole night just flipping them!
Our PT says all thatbis forbidden, swings, chairs anything that has then semi sitting, even on our lap. Basically my babies should be on their backs on the floor at all times. And thats hard. We do not follow that. We can't with 2 babies and one who is rolling I can't not put them in the swing at some point during the day.
Oh thanks bocaburger, for asking that question. Up til mow we have left her but I wasn't sure if that was the right choice or not.
Plus a question baby girl can roll back to belly, but she only goes right. The PT says that is not normal, that babies should learn both ways at the same time. She has been rolling constantly for a bit over 2 weeks I guess. What are your guys experience with this? I think my PT is sometimes a bit overboard but I jad nothing to compare it to.

Whoah, your PT is hardcore! I have alway heard 20 minutes a day in an exersaucer is ok so you can throw together dinner. Sitting in your lap to read a book is encouraged for non-gross motor benefits (there is more to life than gross motor skills after all!), but yes the semi-reclined devices are discouraged. I have read a max of 2 hours including car seat time. Many PTs and OTs suggest no other sitting other than your lap until LO can get there on his or her own but most parents I know break that rule. I do, though admittedly my kids have been motor delayed, so...
My kids all started rolling just over one side belly to back, but did both back to belly really quickly. From what I have read it is a cause for further asssessment if your kid is not learning to roll over both sides of the body, but I do not know how long is typical to wait before being concerned. Seems like a good pediatrician question since your PT seems hyper-focused on only doing what is ideal for motor development and not on family life.
Early Intervention here is all about enabling families to help their kids. The PTs I have worked with have been super understanding of the restrictions of babies being babies and life needing to go on. I love that about them.
Thanks gratefulgirl, ya she is hard core I hate going to her because I always feel like she is looking for something to be wrong. Baby girl is a very strong willed little girl and is already starting crawing positions sometimes I just feel she just doesn't know she can go the other direction and the pt is aware of the situation and has given us exercises. But since Christmas we haven't done our exercises at home because they have been sick and still have a higher then regular temperature. We go to our pedi in a couple weeks so if she still isn't then I will mention it to him as well. Ugg sometimes this stuff is just so hard.

I work in early intervention and I think it's important to have a good mix (everything is ok in moderation). We have DD on floor time most often, but put her in the swing for when I need to shower or pee and in her high chair whenever were eating. Since I'm on the mental health/behavior/attachment side of things I'm also a big proponent of holding your baby! Expecting a baby to not be picked up and held is crazy and also could cause other issues. /give them all the loving!!

remylove1011,holding them is fine, just not in a sitting position. I guess I wrote that part unclear. Just when not holding they should be on the floor.

All this is making me nervous! I have E on the floor a lot, but I also have him sitting on my lap a lot, and we've been introducing him to the exersaucer too...
@hannabear, my pt did say with normal. Babies that it is less important but that because mine have muscle tone issues its different. But I still do it they like sitting and get board now laying al the time so I don't make them. Plus I do feel like my pt is a bit over and I do need to have a bit of a balance. I have lessened the amount they are in the chair or swing, and we dont have a exersaucer because of her, but with two babies I can only do so much.

DD only rolled to one side for the longest time. She's ahead of her motor skills without any developmental delays. Is your PT a new graduate (i.e. Less than 5 years experience)? When I was a new grad (I'm a PT) I made all patients do things the correct way. Over time I learned there is no one right way.

No she is older. Like at least in her 50s I would say.
Thanks for lettibg me know that your LO did that too.

Our PT wants ds2 on his back, but also to spend a lot of time on his tummy and sitting up. Of course, he also is there because he needs to strengthen his neck (and then hopefully not worry about his flat spot, which is not as bad now after not just laying him down all the time). I've never heard of only leaving them on their backs on the floor and not sitting with you.
She also wants us to do lots of tummy time. So npt just on their backs on the floor, just absolutely no sitting. I was there and she was working with baby boy and baby girl woke up so I sat her on my lap and she freaked out, no don't do that thats forbidden no sitting until they sit on their own. It was all very dramatic.
We also stsrted going for just a flat spot, which she says is not that bad, but after seeing the babies we are there for muscle tone and what not. Pretty much every time we are there she finds another problem ot something she doesn't like the looks of. I feel like she doesn't always understand that babies are small people and do have their own will and that tjey arenall a bit different in how they develop. She goes by the book that is for sure.

@grateful girl what's the rule.on assisted standing? DD loves to stand holding onto our ottoman and I usually let her for a few minutes at a time, but I don't want to somehow damage her joints or something. She is flat footed and holding herself up. Is that ok?
