If your husband works an overnight shift...

or maybe you work the overnight shift... how do you plan on handling childcare when you are back at work? My husband works overnights and I work a regular day shift.  I have a friend in the same situation and her husband stays up when he gets home at 7 AM and watches the kids, and then gets his sleep in once she gets home after 5 or 6 until he works at 11 pm.  While that would be awesome because no daycare would be needed, I feel like I would never see my husband!

Just curious as to how other people handle the situation.  Thanks!

My friends have that situation and that is how they do it. The wife's schedule is a little easier though, she works 11pm-7am and the husband works normal desk job hours.

My H works 24 hours on then 48 off. I work mostly M-F 9-5. On the days we both work our son stays with a sitter but that's usually about 7 days a month. There are days when he's been up all night and he's got no energy at all, we schedule in a few days off for my H every now and then as well. If your H is awake all night working this may not be the best solution as he'll be extremely tired and you can't always bank on an infant to sleep as much as he may need.

My DH was working swings, getting to work as I was leaving (we both worked at the same place) so our plan was to do a baby swap in the parking lot. But now he just accepted a new job and we don't know what his schedule will be once I'm back to work. He may still work part time at his old job a few nights, so that is still the plan for those days.
