Hi!! This is kind of a wwyd question. So I had my baby on 12/30, bf'ing has been going great so far. Before delivery I caught some kind of upper respiratory thing that has been on/off since I've been home. I've just been taking plain mucinex, using my inhaler ( I have asthma) as needed and I also take singulair. I don't believe any of these meds affect supply. But my wheezing gets worse sometimes esp at night and isn't controlled by the inhaler. Would you go to the doctor for an antibiotic? I'm not sure if I could even get one to knock this out if its bronchitis. I also have a lot of snot and I know sudafed-d would help but I'm pretty sure it's a no no for bf'ing. Any other remedies anyone recommends? I'm also just wondering if you all can point me to a good resource online to determine what meds are safe for breastfeeding. Tia!!
if your wheezing isn't well-controlled by the inhaler and singulair, then yes, i would check in with the doctor to make sure you don't have something else going on, especially since you've had symptoms for a while. maybe you have a secondary bacterial infection or need a steroid to calm things down.
i would avoid sudafed as it can affect your supply. also use caution with things like benadryl that might make you groggy when you're around LO (particularly at night).
i find sinus rinses with a neti pot very helpful to clear out snot. neilmed sinus rinse kits are great and available pretty much everywhere. also advil as it helps with sinus inflammation/headache. drink tons of hot tea to keep everything flowing.
also InfantRisk- they are the premier researchers on BFing/medications. you can search their forums here: www.infantrisk.com/forum/forum/medications-and-breastfeeding-mothers they also have a hotline you can call, but you should be able to find info on most common OTC cold meds just by searching the forum.

The Mommy Meds app for your phone is the Infant Risk Center info. I've found it to be very helpful when nursing DS.
I would definitely avoid Sudafed, which totally stinks because it works so well.
Have you tried running a humidifier all night in your room?
What about Vicks Vapor Rub? People swear by it, but I've never used it myself.
Sorry you've been feeling sick.I have a horrible cold and DD is due in 2 weeks. I'm praying it goes away before she arrives. You've had it rough these past few weeks!
Thanks for all the online resources and advice @vvvvfee! weeklyplanner I did humidifier last night and have tried vapo rub too. I think I might go the doc tomorrow and get checked out.
