I started this in Randoms but then it got all TL:DR so I'm starting a thread.
Operation Nap in Big Boy Bed is a go! I've been sticking to crib naps even though night time sleep has been going great on the floor bed. I think ds is trying to drop his morning cat nap 😭 the doctor at his 1.5 year visit was surprised he was still taking two but he really needs(ed) it. He went down at 1 after a busy morning of fun, circle time, and walk. I'm hoping for a long nap but he has always been a short napper. Sometimes it's a struggle to keep him up until 1 now that he's dropping the morning nap (has been going off and on for two weeks now) but if he naps earlier then he's up at 1 and then a crank until his 7pm bed time. His night sleep is great and usually 11 to 12 hours so I don't want to mess with bedtime if I can avoid it. The handful of bad nights we've had since the transition were tied to no naps or short early naps....which solidified me as Team Sleep Begets Sleep!
Advice? Thoughts? Sympathy? When does your little take an afternoon nap and when is bedtime?
N was always a short napper (40 min) until he consolidated into 1 nap. He typically goes down after lunch and sleeps 2-3 hours. When we first started the transition, we'd offer a snack when he started to slow down around 10 AM, and that seemed to boost him through to the afternoon. Even if he goes down for a late nap, he still goes down to bed at 7 PM no problem - he napped until 4:30 yesterday because he was at my mom's until later and didn't get down until around 2, still passed right out at 7. He goes down at 7 PM and sleeps 12 hours at night, naps 12:30/1-3/3:30 typically. We transitioned to 1 nap at around a year since he's in daycare and they were trying to get him on the toddler room schedule (he is now 20 months old).
Good luck!! Honestly, 1 nap a day is so freeing and makes the day easier to schedule! But seriously the snack thing has helped us and many other moms I know too.

Similar experience to rinny. DS always took short naps until he was down to one a day. No matter what time he naps, he has no issue going to bed at his usual 8:15-8:30. He also naps right after lunch and sleeps 2-3 hours (usually 1230-2:30). And for the record, I am also team sleep begets sleep.

He's up. Boo. 55 minutes instead of his usual 40-45 so I guess that's something. I let him fuss for a bit but he didn't go back down, he never really has. It's tough because you can tell from his cry that he's still tired.
Looking at your schedules rinny and heybulldog56 it looks like I'll just have to keep pushing it. Hopefully he settles into a longer nap before the baby gets here. Thank you!

DD (20 months) dropped her morning nap at around 16 months. During the transition I would put her down for a nap early like 11, and then do an early bedtime, like 6. Now she naps from 1-3 and goes to bed by 7:30.

DS never was never a great napper. From 1.5-2, he napped about 30-40 min a day in his crib. That was the only time in is 2.5 years he napped in the crib. Once he turned two, he dropped to no nap (just stood in his crib yelling and talking for over an hour and never laid down) or a car nap. He's now almost 2.5 and he is still doing this. On really rough no nap days, he goes to bed at 6:30pm, but most days it's 7pm. He wakes around 6-6:30am.
I'm not sure how this helps, but that's our experience, lol.

Echoing what others have said. DS1 went from 2 to 1 naps at daycare at about 15mo old (sleeping from about 12.30 - 2.30 or 3pm). We were a little more flexible at home at weekends with naps when he needed them but by 18mo he was on the same schedule for us too. He always slept 11-12 hours at night.
He dropped his nap entirely for us at home about 6-8mo ago but still slept the same 2hr slot at daycare most days.
Occaisionally if we've had a busy day he'll crash late afternoon for a couple of hours. He still goes to bed same time. If we've really been busy outdoors all day he can crash at 5.30 in the car and sleep through until morning!

We're still taking naps in our house. I think when DS turned 3 he dropped to just one nap a day. He'll tell us he doesn't need a nap every single day but if we make him lay down, he'll be out for 2-3 hours most of the time. He can function with none but he's a lot more friendly when he gets one.
If it helps at all, from what I can tell the stage where they no longer nap is also the stage where they want to play Doc McStuffins alone in their room, and you can actually let them? So, not a total loss.
