Dishwasher recommendations

So H and I recently noticed some water spots/leaks on our basement ceiling. Long story short, it took us much longer than it should have to realize that our dishwasher was leaking through the floor.

This is an older dishwasher and not really worth repairing... plus we've been gradually updating all of the appliances in our kitchen with stainless steel, and this would be a good time to update the dishwasher. So apparently we are now in the market for a dishwasher.

I know a lot of you have done kitchen remodels in recent years, so if you have any dishwasher recommendations, I'd love to hear them! Recommended brands, models, features, etc? Any dishwashers you would not recommend?

It was between the nicer Bosch and the nicer Kitchenaid. Wound up choosing the Bosch, and I have been very happy with it.

3rd rack is amazing and worth every penny.

Since it doesn't have a heating coil, I crack open the door at the end of the cycle to help remove the moisture while it's still hot.

Bosch 800 series is what we ended up getting.

Ugh that sucks. Our dishwasher is old but works. Eventually it will get upgraded

When we remodeled our kitchen in our last house we went all out on a top of the line Bosch. It was AMAZING! In our new house we wanted matching appliances and got the LG black stainless suite. The color is so awesome and doesn't show any finger prints. That said, we upgraded to their best dishwasher because it had the third rack, one of the best features of our Bosch, but it just doesn't compare.

Sigh. RIP Bosch. I hope you're making your new family happy.

Where the buttons are - on the top edge of the door: children can't push buttons during the cycle, but neither can you. Depending on how far your counter overhangs you may not be able to see where I the cycle it is.

Yes to the stainless interior and yes to hidden buttons. DD pushes the buttons on my parent's dishwasher all the time and messes with it. We've had hidden buttons on both of ours and both have had some kind of indicator light system to show it was running. The Bosch just had a red light that shined down on the floor. Our LG has four blue lights across the front that blink to show where it's at in the cycle. We can still see the timer on it too because of how it sits compared to our counter over hang.

I have had a bad experience with Whirlpool so I would recommend avoiding that brand. My current dishwasher is only 2 years old and always smells. We pretty much pre-wash everything and the thing still stinks. Running dishwasher cleaner in it helps for a few days. And we have had to replace a small part in the door twice in the past year (it's a piece that keeps the door from falling open when unlocked). I have never had a dishwasher smell or break like this one so I am completely unimpressed (as I am with their other appliances). We're waiting for the part to break one more time and then we're going to get a Bosch 800 series.

My word of advice it to make sure your plates fit

We still have the original dishwasher from when we moved into our house and the plates just barely fit.

My bff just bought a new one and they needed a small-ish one to fit in the kitchen of the house they bought because that one was dead. Their dishes don't fit. Although maybe they just have big dishes? Lol

Oh, the appliance guy at lowes said to avoid Samsung dishwashers. They're one of the only ones to ever get a "do not buy" recommendation from consumer reports.

We love our Samsung tv. But I've always heard horribly things about all their kitchen appliances.

We have a Bosch ecosense, and hate it. I don't know what the model number is, but I'm guessing not one of the higher-end ones. The previous owners put it in, probably around 2012, so they could be better now (sounds like they are per ♪♫choppinbroccoli♫♪). But I'd definitely go higher end for something like this.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery, and have been really happy with it. Agree with those saying to get the interior stainless steel.

The reason we went with the Gallery is it's the smudge-proof stainless steel, which has been imo one of the greatest decisions we've made. I would get endlessly annoyed with fingerprints on all my appliances.
