Every time I let down I leak - I don't remember when it stops.
Mine never stopped overnight last time because he never slept consistently and woke at different times. I'm on my second box of boob pads this time.
Blah. I have to by a new box of boob pads. I've been stuffing Kleenex in my bras. I woke up at 4:00 am with my left boob leaking and a saturated sheet. #grossnursingprobs
becole that is awesome!! jcrewgirl, my non-nursing side still leaks when I let down. I usually put one pad in and switch it when I switch sides. Stretches the pad supply, lol. Today I went to an ENT for a second opinion on LOS lip tie. I'm in such a messy headspace about it. I wasnt very confident in what the lactation consultant said last week, especially since she didnt even watch me nurse or latch. The ENT felt it should be clipped so I went ahead and had them do it. And it was awful and I instantly regretted it. And she didn't nurse very well in the office. And the nursing at home since has been the same pretty much. The ent pointed out that her bottom lip wasn't flaring either but there was no real explanation. Basically told me to see what happens over the next few days. I showed her a pic of DD1 and she thinks she has one too which if her adult teeth grow in with a big space, they'd put her under to clip hers. Which makes me feel awful. She was super spitty and gassy, but the latch was good, so I never realized. I mean the spittness and gassiness might not have been from that. But I'll feel terrible if she needs surgery. So back to LO I'm worried I made things worse or even no better, and put her through all that pain. I'm worried about sleep getting messed up from pain. She's been sleeping almost the whole day since.

Even though the TT is clipped, baby might need to relearn how to latch and use their tongue and not their lips to nurse and latch. Get a young or newly trained LC, they are more knowledgeable on ties.

I agree with this! DD had her TT clipped but she was only four days old. She nursed awful right afterwards but it was because she was still numb. Once the numbing agent wore off her latch was much better but that's probably because she wasn't old enough to learn bad latch habits. I'm sure a few days of working on baby's latch will help. DS had a upper lip tie and a minor TT (my first kiddo) and I worked with an LC and breastfeeding specialist ped for 3 months. By the time it was finally diagnosed by dr I no longer had pain because he was old enough to open his mouth wide enough to compensate (I EP'd up until this point because of the pain). Anyways, because he still has an upper lip tie he has a gap between upper teeth. He is only 2 so it's not a concern yet but I believe they will want to clip it at some point before his adult teeth.

If he doesn't bust it on his own, which most kids do. DS had a minor upper lip tie that we didn't worry about because by the time we got his tongue tie clipped at 10 days we were already bottle feeding. He busted it about 6 months ago running around and falling off the couch.

I meant to add this too! He totally did bust it open. Omg the amount of blood was scary. Im not sure if his adult teeth will squeeze together or not because there is still tissue between his two front teeth, I can't really describe it any other way.
They didn't numb DD2 when she got her upper lip tie clipped. I wish they had. She still isn't nursing right. I try to reach in and flare her lips but she just unmatched every time. I need to try to make it to three breastfeeding support group that helped a lot with DD1, but it's about an hour away and during DD1s nap time. So I gotta figure something out.

DS1 also has the lip tie with the front top tooth gap. The pediatric dentist said they'd see how it was after he lost his baby teeth and go from there. She did warn us that if he hit it, it would bleed like a mofo. I wish I had noticed it when he was a baby to avoid larger work when he's older, but he nursed so well after the first month.

I don't know if this will help but maybe try a shield for a little bit until she gets used to things? You can then wean her off the shield.

The LC was saying that the ENT clipped my sons upper lip tie which gives him mobility in nursing, but if we didn't want a gap in his teeth, he should have had the laser version done at the dentist. They remove that gum tissue so there's no gap in the front teeth. If you're already having ties cut, might as well save some money on future braces.

My son still tucks his upper lip but the LC said it wasn't affecting his latch- it's really about the toungue and the seal they make around the nipple. It seems so easy but they know so much more just by looking at it.

Yeah, that was mentioned and I prolly should. I'm being a brat and not wanting to go "backwards" (in my mind).

I know what you mean. I'm using them with C and I really really was hoping I wouldn't have to. I weaned V off of them by 4 months so I'm hoping to do that this time around. C is much more lazy with eating though and gets pissed off every time I try.

What have you ladies done to successfully increase supply? My girls aren't gaining as much as we (pedi and myself) would like so I'm going to try to increase my milk production.

After getting sick and dehydrated, my supply tanked. I pumped after my morning feedings, used fenugreek (3 capsules 3 times a day), and this smoothie everyday for breakfast:
Since doing all of that, my supply seems to have evened out.

Thanks! I'm hoping to pick up some fenugreek tomorrow.

Is it possible to let them comfort nurse or just cluster feed? I don't remember if you are back to work or not. I know they say the best thing it to keep baby at the breast, that an empty breast signals the body to make more. I've also had success with the mothers milk tea, they sell it at most big grocery stores.
I know I have one of the older babies in this board but I just read this and it's everything we are going through right now. I know this is my second baby but it really helped normalize what I'm going through with breastfeeding/distraction/lack of sleep. kellymom.com/parenting/nighttime/4mo-sleep/
danizee I'm definitely going to read that article. In general to everyone- is anyone going backwards on night feeds or are you all now trying to hold off LO if they're waking at earlier times? If you're not feeding how far are you going to get them to sleep? Like to the point of picking up and rocking? I am being so cautious because I don't want to create bad habits. I know I've been saying this since like week4. But legit, I think I screwed up all our sleep by going back to feeds with DD1.

I am honestly afraid to answer this question bc I don't want to jinx myself and have things back pedal. Who knew having kids would make me superstitious.

DS is waking up once to eat. I'm feeding him. It's usually been in the ballpark of 6-8 hours so I know he's hungry. Does this answer your question? If not, I think I'm confused by your question.
She's saying if her kid has been consistently sleeping 8-4 and then gets up at 2, would you feed at 2?
I would because my baby has been waking anywhere between 1-4 and usually if I feed at first wake up, he still sleeps until 6 regardless of when that first wake up occurred. I'm also mindful of the calendar and when it seems to be a growth spurt. I won't worry about bad habits or over feeding until baby starts waking more than 2 times/ night. Then I would probably feed at first wake and rock to sleep at second wake. But some babies won't settle without the boob. So then you're left with feed baby or pat baby and let baby cry. That's your choice.
sanibel21 if she wakes within a couple hours of being put down I figure she is hungry and didn't get enough before bed (majorly distracted baby right now!!). If she wakes around 11-2ish then I generally try the paci first, turn her on her side and pat her back. Anything after 3ish, If she is hysterical or escalates crying I always nurse.
Eta lately she has been paci obsessed and giving her a paci and patting her back works 95% of the time.

Would you feed if he woke up at 11? I know it's my choice obvisouly, I like to get a sense what others are doing to make sure there's a variety and I'm not like way off base.
