Help me adult about my work situation. I'll tl;dr at the end. Bear with me.
It's no secret that I've been desperate to get back to work for quite some time now. I had to turn down a regular PT position back in November because, essentially, I have to work daycare friendly hours. MH can't be relied on to be able to pick the kids up from daycare before it closes.
MH casually brought up that the practice manager for their sister/sub practice had left. I was like, "!!!!!!" MH's practice manager is currently doing double duty covering his practice and the sister/sub practice (and he works closely with her), so he mentioned to her that I'd be interested in the position. She was genuinely intrigued, even said, "Oh that would be great"; however, the powers that be (the docs, administration) are currently undecided on whether to fill the position. She told MH she would let him know when they made the decision and what they decided, so that I could apply if it went that way. The position would be practice manager, so FT M-F, regular office hours. No weekends/holidays/call. I have experience in management, not in the office setting, but experience managing people, running a unit, etc. Also, the practice that I would be taking over is expected to triple their patient load over the next 3-5 years. MH thinks program development is going to be a huge expectation with that position, which is not something I have any familiarity with. He also thinks that while the program is expanding, the practice manager is going to be expected to do A LOT, which translates to, probably, some long hours out the gate. I think I'd have a chance at the job between having some management experience and 10 years of experience with the patient population being served, but the program development piece is working against me. And, regardless, it's been over a month and MH hasn't heard anything about it actually being posted.
Yesterday, I was browsing job openings to see if anything had been posted about the above and found a position for a clinical nurse with the group. When I told MH, he was shocked because he didn't think they were ever going to be hiring for them again (there's a big long back story with this I'll spare you). I didn't come right out and say, "I'm thinking of applying", but I know he knew that's what I was getting at, I've coveted their position for a long time. He just kept saying, "I don't know about that. I really didn't think they were going to hire any more." Anyway, this position is MUCH more in line with what I'd like to do, instead of getting back into what I would *have* to do because of the hours thing. These nurses are basically physician extenders on the step-down unit and do things like discharge patients, write simple orders for lab work and follow up, and round with the physicians daily. So, they're still pretty involved at the bedside. They work office hours, so 8-5, and they rotate through weekends (MH thinks every 4th) and holidays. It's FT, per the posting online. For this position, I'd be MORE than qualified (10 years experience recovering and taking care of these patients in ICU).
What should I do? Wait and see on the management job? Or apply for the posting that actually exists now? WWYD in my situation?
Tl;dr: I want to go back to work, but need a position that has daycare friendly hours, so likely I have to leave doing what I love (bedside nursing). A management position has been made known to me as a possibility, but there hasn't been any movement on it in over a month (like it doesn't actually exist as of right now). If it came to fruition, I'd be somewhat qualified, as I have 2 years of management/leadership experience, but program development would be a huge portion of the job, which I have no experience with. The second possibility is a position that is more nursing based, pretty close to the bedside (which I love) and actually has daycare friendly hours. I'm more than qualified as I have 10 years of experience with the patient population. Both jobs are FT, 8-5 type hours. The hiring team is the same for both and know me well. The first position will require a lot of extra hours worked for some time and the second position does have some weekend/holiday requirements, as cons.
