Since tax season is upon us, don't forgot that a portion of zoo and museum memberships (I'm not sure about the aquarium) are tax deductible.
Zoo- lesser of $75 or cost of membership, so if you purchased a family membership you can deduct $75
Museum center- here's a breakdown of what can you deduct based on the membership you purchased. Individual Member Pass: $25 Dual Member Pass: $25 Family Member Pass: $25 Family Premium Member Pass: $50 Concourse Club: $145 Whispering Fountains Club: $225

Hi all quick question (more of a WWYD)...
we suspect ex isn't actually buckling A into her carseat, and if she is buckled in he's letting her do it herself...
we (myself and mom separate occasions) have asked about this he's telling us yes, but she's telling us no.
yesterday my mom ran back out to his car b/c she had forgotten to give A her meds and she said "wait she needs her meds, he said ok she's not strapped in (yet)" but he was already on the driver side of the car getting ready to get in and pull away...
she asked him this morning and he told her yes he straps her in, but we have little faith he does...
so my question is: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
(side note spoke to my attorney about it previously and he said it can be construed as hearsay from a bitter ex wife trying to stick it to her spouse)

hbrockman01 Could you start walking her out to his car and strapping her in when he picks her up? Give her hugs and kisses beside the car and then help her get in. When you can't be there you have to trust that he would do his best to keep his daughter safe, so not help there. Was anything like this an issue in the past? To me, it seems strange that he would suddenly decide seat restraints were optional.

I'm not there when he picks her up. My mom is now, but before he was picking her up from school. She's going to start going out to the car with them, but on Sundays when he has her all day that's another issue. He's always been "lazy" in the car seat dept. like when we lived together and go places in his car I would find if he put her in the straps were extremely loose... I would correct it then, but it wouldn't surprise me if his "lazy" has just taken on a whole other level...
**edit for additional thought**
we are talking about the same man who when he took this child on vacation in September failed to give her, her medication (came back with the same amount that had been sent - granted it's just allergy meds but still)
That's a great tip mrscatfarmer13 ! What loophole is that? Our accountant has never mentioned it.
Well it has something to do with the cost of membership > cost of services provided and the difference would be considered a donation. The orgs have to be registered as exempt or NP with the IRS in order for this to count.
GM all! My mom left last night so I'm on my own with baby but kinda looking forward to it. H overslept this morning, forgot to set his alarm. Thankfully the baby started to wake up and woke him up, so he was able to get ready quickly and not be too late. I can't wait for the warm weather this weekend, 60s and sun in the middle of January! Oh, baby wearing ladies-have you ever been to bwi meeting? I'd like more help with my ring sling but I'm not sure I fit with the crunchy crowd. And tell me more about tula. Is it better than ergo? I have an ergo but I really struggle to buckle it in the back by myself, like I feel like I'm going to pull my arm out of its socket.
vlagroupie , Tula is really similar to Ergo. I find it more comfortable, (only comparison for me is switching from regular Ergo to Toddler size Tula) but buckling it in back is the same level of difficulty.
ETA Have you tried moving the back buckle up to make it easier to reach?

vlagroupie it sounds like you need to move the buckle up in back. I don't remember how crucial they are to bearing weight, but I think they are mostly there to keep the straps from sliding off your arms.

Yes - I've been quite a few times. It's pretty awkward, and the more I think about it, the more I don't want my kid around the anti-vaxxers. I can help you with both or Stephanie at Blue Cocoon is really good about helping with those too. They also have a baby wearing 101 and those ladies are super nice.
Also, the trick they showed me for SSCs is to let the arm straps out all the way and fasten the back strap, then flip it over your arms/ head. Put baby in burp position and slide her down into the pouch. Tighten the arm straps once she's up.

That is this Saturday, might check it out thanks! My friend actually made the ring sling and I got it for N when she was 6 months old. I should probably call her and see if she can just help me with the baby. Or maybe next time I see you, you can help with it too. Thanks ladies!

They helped me and it was great. Granted I've only worn her twice, but now it's set up for her and I'll just have to let it out as she gets bigger.
I find it to be more comfortable and less strain on my back when the back buckle is higher as well.
+1
vlagroupie, I buckle the ergo around my waist first (the actual indent waist part- above your belly button). Then I put my arms through the side straps that are buckled, then I buckle the back part and put it over my head, the I wiggle the baby in. Sitting is easier for me. At that age though I find the ktan easier or the ring sling. Just pop them in and tighten.
Baby took an ounce from The daycare worker- took an hour and two tries... then he took the rest of the bottle from me! This kid tho...
Hey it's progress!
He's such a weirdo. I sat him in the car seat and he was smiling at me and just sucked the rest down. I'm so glad this is a will power issue and not a physical limitation. Though will power can be hard to overcome, he doesn't seem to be too too stubborn. Yet.

I wonder if that was just the right angle to make him comfortable to not choke?
