Has anybody here used Walmart to have their tires changed? DH car is at the mechanic for the upteenth time. We trust this mechanic and feel the pricing is more than fair. We are taking a huge hit to our savings fixing his car though. Yes, A LOT is being done, and I'm hopeful nothing else comes up in a longgg time, but our mechanic doesn't do tires, and he needs two new tires. I'm trying to find any way to save at this point.
I've used both Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. Sam's is nice because you get the road hazard and free rotation/balancing included as long as you're a member and they were the cheapest for their quote.

I don't have personal experience with them, but H told me some horror stories when he worked in the auto industry about cars that had to be towed from Walmart's auto center. The only one that sticks out ATM is the time the technician did an oil change, and forgot that he already put new oil in the car, so he engine with oil again. The entire engine had to be replaced.
mrscatfarmer13 - I've heard not great stories about WM also, but I figure, it's just tires, how wrong can it go? We'll see. There's a place near our house that we might try out.
Sometimes (mostly at bath time) we'll use a timer to signal it's time to clean up, and give countdown warnings like 5 more minutes and then it's time to clean up, then 3 min, 1 min etc. I remember reading that it helps them prepare to clean up because they know it's coming or something like that.

Yeah I do this. It definitely helps with transitioning from activities (5 more min til nap, 5 more min til we get out of the bath...), but doesn't seem to do much for cleaning up.

sstwinklinglites, a little over a year ago we went to NTB (national tire and battery, I think) in Fairfield township and got a good deal. It was just a buy 3 get 1 free deal, but I think we were around 500-550 for them to replace all 4 tires. Have you looked around for any of those kinds of deals yet?

Nope. There's a few tire places around here, so I'll check on any deals they may have going on.

We usually go to tire discounters and have almost always had good luck there with price and service. They do free alignment and rotation if you purchase 4 tires, we usually purchase the roadside/hazard assistance which is $15ish/tire.
I see a big onset of skills when DS moves up room. It's like he sees someone doing something and then figures it out. He just never thought to do it before and they give him the idea.
Same here. I also see differences in behavior. He tends to be a little jerk when he's the oldest kid in the room. But then when he moves up and he's the youngest in the room, he's better behaved, wants to do what the big kids are doing, wants to please the new teacher, and we always see sudden new skills around the time he moves up. I remember back in the day I tried so hard to get him to eat with a spoon on his own and he just had no interest. As soon as he saw other kids do it at school he picked it up in like 2 days.

I've used Walmart in the past (like a decade ago) and it was fine. But since then I've developed a deep hatred for Walmart. DH had a good experience recently at Tire Discounters. He didn't get new tires, but they were super helpful with his catalytic converter issue. They were right about the diagnosis, and recommended that he take it somewhere else where they could put cheaper parts on it, and didn't charge him a dime.
Bub failed his hearing test the first time too, and the nurse told us it's really common for babies to fail, and then pass it at a later time. It's probably just not an easy thing to test, but it sucks that so many people are inconvenienced by a test that just isn't very accurate.

sstwinklinglites I just saw a sign at the car x that said 4 tires for $299. I'm sure they're cheap ass tires and there are strings attached, but it may be worth looking into.
Ugh. I'm a mess. I have been trying to find a time to talk to DC director about leaving, and things have been hectic when I picked him up each day, and it just hasn't worked out. So I sent an email today because we have to give one month's notice and it's getting down to the wire. She wrote me back right away. Now I'm crying at my desk and I need to pull it together so I can go pick him up. Her response:
I am very heartbroken. Not just as a Director but because I feel I have known you for so long and have not only loved [DS] but the entire family as well. Everyday [DS] makes my world just a tad bit brighter! It is with a heavy heart to reply. I hope they treat your family well and above all else, are good and kind to [DS] and your new baby!
I have been very lucky to be such a big part of your lives. I almost wish I could deny your request! LOL
Thank you. I will inform the teachers and [owner].

Heartbrokenly, L
Okay that's a little much.
I knew she'd be upset. She's always had a soft spot for DS. She said he's the first DC kid that she has known since "before he was born" since we registered him while I was still KU. That seems odd to me, but they didn't have a wait list at that time. There's no other kids within a few months of his age, so when he was the only tiny baby there she used to go in and hold him, and bring him out to the office to hang out with her. So I think they have a bit of a bond. And we've been through kind of a lot together, with my little escape artist child. She had to fire a teacher and a photographer because of us. LOL
Keepin' it real becole 😊 I seriously LOL'ed at that.
It does seem a little over the top JoBub, but so sweet too! It's always good to know that the people watching your kids genuinely like them. Transition is hard. Just keep in mind all the reasons for the switch.

Yeah, it sucks now that DS actually knows the names of all his little friends and talks about them at home. One friend got to move up to the next room this week, and when we walked past that room, a parent opened the door and the two little boys saw us in the hallway and were like "Hi _______! You come to this room too?" And the teacher was like "He'll get to move here soon!" And I just felt so guilty for taking him away from his friends. I mean, Primrose is a good school and I'm sure he'll be fine, but really the only positive thing about the switch is saving time on our commutes. So it feels like I'm doing something selfish even though I know it's the right move.
I definitely understand how much you all mean to her and it's a special relationship. But the way she said it was very "I'm mad that you're doing this and going to make you feel guilty." Instead of "I understand you can't drive x minutes out of the way anymore and what can I do to help the transition and can we keep in touch."

I get what you're saying. That's not how I read it, maybe just because I know her personality. And it sort of matched the tone of my email because I was pretty honest that I'm sad about leaving, so it would have seemed cold if her response was quick and professional.

Less commute time can equal more time together as a family. Nothing selfish about that. 😊

They just showed a few seconds of the parade in DC on the local news, and there were literally a handful of people in the stands. Totally empty (at least this portion of the route). This makes me gleeful.
