The weather in DC is also gloomy and rainy. It has been for a couple days and will be through the early part of next week. It's quite fitting. A lot of offices and a few school districts are off today because of the inauguration. H is off and my school district is closed as a holiday. My bff's office is also closed so we're getting lunch and going shopping. O will be staying with H. Yay for friend time!
I made applesauce in my instapot this morning. It's making the world feel a little less terrible.
Playing hide and seek with a 1 and 3 year old is really funny. For one, 2 of the 3 times observant little L found me first. One time when they couldn't find me (I was behind the bathroom door) I couldn't wait any longer and went to the bathroom while I was in there, then when I heard them go by I went into my room to change my clothes. We just have an average size house, and the bathroom and all 3 of our bedrooms are in the same hallway. I finally just stood in the hall until they found me. The third round L found me first (in my room) and I came out and I had pulled the bread out and was making himself a piece of toast.
And I guess that's what's going on in Canada today.

I'm feeling 1000 times better today, which is a huge relief since it's my day at home with DS. I've managed to get two loads of laundry done and have stomached a modest amount of food, so despite the rainy weather and general national gloom, it's an ok day in the jillywilly household.

I'm home from my meeting and DD is protesting naptime-__- normally i would just roll with it, but we have a sitter coming over tonight for date night and DNW to pass off a cranky ass toddler.
Thank you! I've had about 2 minutes to myself today and that was in the shower. E decided 40 mins was suitable for a nap this afternoon and H decided to forget to tell me he had a meeting at work that he needed to stay late for. H redeemed himself by bringing me cookies though! Tonight is pizza, beer and cookies so I'm happy!

Someone in my moms group had 4 kids (under 8) bestowed on her yesterday by a family member with drug issues. She has 4 of her own already. Doubling the grocery list at costco this evening. Have a $300 budget for them, give me ideas. They have room for lots of groceries!

So she'll have 8 kids? Holy crap that's tough.
-bulk spaghetti -bulk pasta sauce -lifetime supply of wine?

Wine for sure. The youngest are 20 mo old twins....
I agree, frozen pancakes, sausage links, peanut butter. I'd get chicken breasts and ground beef too; protein is expensive and you can always freeze it. Toilet paper and diapers too!
wegrowsheep, like others have said bulk grains, bulk meat, diapers, other hygiene stuff like shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Oh and toilet paper. They'll need that.
Are the children part of foster care system in any way? I know that when my parents fostered my nephew they got monetary compensation from the state. I was young so I don't really know or understand the system outside of basic knowledge.

My parents are contributing 20 lbs of ground beef. I got pork roasts, chicken sausage, nuggets, bacon.... Diapers, wipes, and paper towels were all on sale at Costco too!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I hadn't thought of some of them!
wegrowsheep that is rough with 8 littles. How nice of you all to band together and help out. I'm sure the kiddos don't really understand what's happening.
I watched the inauguration and mostly ignored his speech. I've been mostly ok as in not super emotional or anything but watching the Obamas board executive 1 made the tears come and like totally streaming where the kiddo was touching my face concerned. I am praying that we can hold on for 4 years at this point.
