Welcome to the PAIF 1st tri check-in. Please let me know if you'd like to be added, your EDD, and how many beans are cooking if you know. The check-in will be posted weekly on Monday (read: late Sunday night so I don't forget).
A few questions to get you started:
How far are you now?
How are you feeling?
What and when is your next appointment?
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss?
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it?
How are you feeling? Morning sickness is in full effect. I feel like I'm crazy hungover without having done the fun party the night before.
What and when is your next appointment? 2/23 for my first OB ultrasound
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss?
A friend suggested I try Gin Gin chews for my morning sickness and the stupid thing pulled out my filling. Now I get this really sharp pain when I have anything that's not warm. Now I hear I can't receive Novocain! Oh boy!
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it?
I do Occupational Therapy with the geriatric population. So that means I work in a skilled nursing home in the therapy dept. and rehabilitate patients to regain their independence, teach them compensatory strategies and sometimes to education with families. Some days I like my job. There are no days that I like my boss lol.
How are you feeling? Pretty good, no m/s although if I don't eat every 2-3 hours I get this empty, kinda sick feeling in my tummy that's instantly cured with a little snack. Pretty ditzy, spacey, and a bit lightheaded at times. When the sleepiness hits, it hits hard - I could fall asleep in an instant but usually power through it, I'm not much of a napper.
What and when is your next appointment? 2nd ultrasound next Thursday 2/26
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss?I'm more nervous waiting until my next ultrasound than I was for the first one and it seems like forever away. I put a little picture of my bean on the fridge and it makes me happy
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? Well, after working in finance for 20 years, I quit my job last April to work from home with DH. I have a beauty blog and I write reviews for products focusing on anti-aging products and also do the books for my DH's other businesses. What I like about it is I can go to Sephora and buy $500 worth of skin care, use it up, write reviews on the products and legit write the whole thing off on my taxes What I don't like about it? Hmmm, sometimes it's hard to get motivated from home and get out of my sweatpants and actually leave the house...but I wouldn't trade it. I've worked outside the home since I was 14 years old, and I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to be able to work for myself now.

Hi! I was avoiding the check in for a few days. I'm sorry if I missed any big news! I just needed to get over my sadness of losing one of the embryos. I'm still sad yes, but I'm also getting more and more excited about the one perfectly growing bean we do still have. It took me years (started TTC in 2004) to get here and it's a blessing and a miracle. We still have 3 on ice, so maybe we'll do it again. We'll see.
I see some new names here... congrats and welcome!
cml112 - My dr said you can have dental work done in the 2nd trimester. Make sure your dentist knows you are PG. There is a special Novocain they have to order for you.
How far are you now? 7 weeks
How are you feeling? Pretty good actually. Tired and a little bit queasy from time to time, but I can't really complain.
What and when is your next appointment? Routine panel of blood work this week. I have to find a new OB (the practice I use stopped delivering babies) and schedule a 10 week appointment.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? It's weird to me that my body absorbed one of my embryos. Like it's now a part of me. That's all.
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? I own a small (tiny) custom cake company. I make wedding, birthday, sweet 16, shower and other event cakes. I love it. I'm my own boss. I have a ton of flexibility. I take as much business as I want to. If I want to go away for a weekend, I just don't take any orders for the weekend. Another upside - It's a happy job. I deliver cakes to happy events. And really... who isn't happy when they're eating cake? Downside - if I don't work, I don't get paid. No vacation time, no 401K, no maternity leave, etc.
How are you feeling? Pukey, but the Diclegis I just started taking is definitely helping. Also, who knew I would miss a daily BM? I'm buying prune juice today to help get things moving.
What and when is your next appointment? 2/27 for US #2 with the RE
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? Had my first US on Friday. 1 healthy, growing little baby! We saw the heartbeat flickering away. EDD changed to 9/25... I was calculating EDD based on LMP and this date is based on IUI date.
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? I'm an Exec Assistant. I left a director position in the hospitality industry a year ago for the EA job in education. It offers a much better work/life balance and is far less stressful. I also took a 20% pay cut. But it's worth it to work 8 hours a day instead of 10-14. And I get every weekend and holiday off.

How far are you now? 7 weeks 1 day
How are you feeling? Fine. Spotting isn't really happening anymore, but I can tell my cervix is still irritated by the endometrin. My ass hurts from the pio. Anyone else on both? I'm also trying to find out more about the materniT test (or equivalent) that can catch more than Natera can, because we've had an issue with that before. I have no reason to think anything will show up (normal betas, and issues have been chromosomal in the past) but you know, cautious. Oh, and I have to be careful eating at night now. I reach a point where I'm super hungry, but then I get really uncomfortable. I'm going to make myself wait a half hour from now on to see if food is really a good idea.
What and when is your next appointment? ob appt scheduled for Thursday (no sure why, it was supposed to be a phone screening, but kaiser doesn't know what they're doing 90% of the time, and if I get a bonus u/s, yay?). Currently scheduled for an u/s w/my RE 2/27.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? How are you all doing? . Anyone else stalking for a ketchup update?
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it?. I'm a high school teacher. I love my job, most of the time. I don't like having parents who pretend their children don't do the things they've been caught for (cheating, bullying). But I love where I'm teaching right now, and haven't really encountered much of that here at all. I also admit that when the kids tell me that they want to be entertained (right after I had them play a concept game) I get a touch annoyed. But I love how much I've heard my students tell me that what they're learning in class is relevant to their life and future and how excited they get when playing the games I've put together. The enthusiasm (most of them) put into projects is pretty cool too. I've had a lot of kids go on site or do extra research because they're into it, not because I've told them to. Oh, and as an AW, my principal told me on Thursday that they're actively doing what they can to keep me, which is the.best.thing.ever. *preens*

cml112, oops on the Gin Gins. My grandmother loved ginger and my mom and I were putting together a gift basket for her for the holidays 2 years ago and I suggested them. My mom told me she'd rip out her teeth and it would be disastrous. Which, totally true, but it's too bad because I know she would have loved them. bostongirl617, it's good to see you here! I've been seeing the pictures from Boston, it looks mythic. How are you holding up? vballbaby, on the ditzy front. I legit forgot my medical number. Which I've known for years. Had to take out my card to tell them when I was scheduling my ob appt a few minutes ago. Whoops. shortstuff, are you crazy? Telling a bunch of pregnant chicks that you own a bakery? . What's your favorite cake flavor? wazzu08, my EDD got adjusted 2 days too. I felt like I was doing it all over again. nomnom, how are you doing?
cml112, my dentist has a numbing drug that's not Novocain and should be safe because it doesn't have epinephrine in it. I have to get a filling, which they want to put off until I'm the second trimester and have a note from my RE, but maybe yours will do it as an emergency? Otherwise, I second the temporary filling stuff that bostongirl617 suggested.
bostongirl617, we're still trying to decide when to tell ours. They don't know we did IVF, but basically everyone else in our lives know, and we don't want our parents to find out if someone slips. I think we're going to tell them this weekend (after our 2nd u/s
shortstuff, I'm sorry that one of your beans didn't take, but I'm so glad that the other one has. I hope it keeps growing nice and strong.
wazzu08, I haven't tried prune juice, but I think the fiber one brownie bars are really helping me.
How are you feeling? Mostly okay. I get out of breath easier than ever, and I start to nod off around 7pm. And I noticed that I have more morning (all day) sickness at work than I do at home, which is weird. And here's a weird symptom: Does anyone else feel like their bladder is being pinched or something while urinating? Like, there's no pain when I have to go, and it doesn't burn as I pee, it just feels like a lot of pressure on my bladder as I'm relieving the pressure, so to say. Dafuq is that about?
What and when is your next appointment? This Friday, for our 2nd u/s!
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? Our friends with IF troubles lent us a pregnancy journal book- I'm thinking about buying my own copy so I can write in it. Is anyone else keeping a journal?
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? I'm a training coordinator for research support department at a medical/research university. I like my job, but I'm not very good at explaining it (it's in animal research, and I never know how people feel about that kind of thing). Basically, I train my department's staff in their day-to-day duties, as well as research staff who need to access our facilities- I take my job regarding animal care extremely seriously. Generally I like it, I get to do a lot of different things, and I have a lot of support from my bosses to design the training program as I see fit. BUT our director and my direct boss are leaving at the end of the month and now I'm not sure how much of that will change. The assistant VP of research is including me in department planning after the director leaves, so that should help keep my job goals stable.
11w2d! And honestly feeling really good, just tired in the early evenings.
Next appt is the 26th which is a 12 week appt. things looked great at my growth u/s last week. Praying all continues to go well!
QOTW: I was an elementary school teacher before having my DS. Now I stay home with him. I really loved teaching and staying home with DS although it is an adjustment.

How far are you now? 7W6D
How are you feeling? I was feeling good for a few days, now my nausea and i wanna puke feeling has come back. I'll take it though. Helps with my worries!
What and when is your next appointment? I'm not sure yet. Currently in OB limbo. Had records from current faxed over to new office. Hopefully next week, I'll be meeting with the new OB. And with any luck, she will be more sympathetic to my IF brain and give me a damn u/s before 12 weeks!
bostongirl617, I can't believe all the snow you guys are getting. I'm not far away (NY), and it's driving me nuts, I feel for you guys!! My Mom grew up in Boston, and remembers the last huge snow where she was picked up for work on a snowmobile!!
vballbaby, Next Thursday will be here before you know it!
wazzu08, Oat bran helps too, and in my opinion, tastes better than prune juice. I use it to make a pancake, then top with cream cheese for breakfast. Quick, easy, and keeps things moving!
lilyharper, glad the spotting has become a thing of the past!
sewfie2, I hear ya on nodding off early. One night, DH and I were sitting at the dinning room table, I put my head down for a second and was out! DH woke me up laughing at me!
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? I'm a Rural Carrier for the Postal Service. I really enjoy it in the summer, when I just ride around in my truck in the nice weather. This time of year though, not so much love. I'm glad right now that I'm out til late March early April for Carpal Tunnel surgery! I also don't like the changes in the organization anymore. My boss is difficult and likes drama, and some of my co-workers are bitches.
My DH and I decided, before we knew I was preggers, that we were going to finish our camp up to be our full time home and move there. This cuts out our mortgage and when we sell the house we are currently in, I'm quitting my job and going back to school. Now, I still plan on taking online classes, but ideally, once our baby is in school, I'd like to get a job at the school. Something like a bus aide or lunch lady. I'm looking forward to this so much!!

QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? i work at an upscale retirement home in the business office...my boss is super flexible and I like working with the elderly...I dislike that our facility is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year...it doesn't happen often but it's stressful to know that if there were an emergency I would still be obligated to make it into work to make sure everyone is ok.

bostongirl617 - I know it's hard trying to decide when to tell. For us, a lot of people know. But that's only because we were leaving the country for so long that we couldn't imagine not telling certain people. Honestly, it's been really nice having all of the support that we do. Tell them when you feel the time is right... only you can make that decision.
lilyharper - so glad to hear your spotting is better! Hahahaha Yes, I'm crazy. I don't have a favorite flavor... there's too many I like and I'm always creating new ones.
sewfie2- Thanks. I'm not keeping a journal, but I sometimes do wish that I had kept a journal or a blog on my whole decade long TTC journey.
ginnyjones82 - I'm also in NY. It's a huge state.... but maybe... you're close enough for some cake! And yes, I'm SO over this winter!

cml112 that sucks about your filling and no Novocaine! Ouch! bostongirl617 I feel you on the issue of 'I told you I was doing IVF... but I'm not quite ready to tell you I'm pregnant.' We ended up telling my parents in the worst way ever - right after they told me that my cousin had committed suicide a week and a half ago. I had told them I was finding out if I was pregnant or not that day (which was a lie - I already knew but was going to see them the next day and was buying myself time) and they were so worried I was going to find out we'd not gotten pregnant the same day we learned about my cousin. So I just blurted out that I was pregnant and they started crying all over again. Not at all how I ever envisioned doing that one. But it would have been cruel to lie and I was out of time, and really upset myself. Ugh. vballbaby I have been out of the loop - how did your last u/s go? Your job sounds so cool! I'd love to see your blog if you ever feel comfortable sharing! I totally understand if not though. shortstuff I have been out of the loop and am so sorry I missed your embryo news, and so sorry for your loss. lilyharper what a nice compliment from your principal! sewfie2 good luck telling your parents! @buttmonkey I'm glad it sounds like either option will work for you professionally. Please keep us updated!
How far are you now? 7w2d
How are you feeling? Pretty good, overall. I get really tired around 4-5 pm, but luckily very little morning sickness so far.
What and when is your next appointment? 2nd u/s on Thursday. The first one was too early to see a heartbeat so I'm eager to see one this time, and to make sure everything is going well since I'm not having a ton of symptoms.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? Sorry that I have been MIA lately - work was crazy, then a death in the family, so last week I was out of town at services. I'm back to work and back on here now and excited to participate more again.
Also I am super glad to be eating leftover cake right now from a birthday party over the weekend after reading all of these comments about cake. YUM.
QOTW: I am a software consultant for a small software company. I help clients implement our software and am basically a project manager. I really enjoy it and work from home full time which is fantastic.

Is anyone else on the iPad circle of hell on this site? It's super annoying I keep getting booted, and, sometimes, I see some posts but not others? So if it looks like I'm ignoring you, I'm not.
You know, unless I am.
@buttmonkey, I saw!!! I'm trying not to over lurk there, and I just had to post the glitter stim post yesterday, so I didn't want to go super lurk over there. I'm a lovetit maniac though. I'm now stalking her next update. When should you know about the work thing? Yeah, my RE did a similar thing to me this time. Last time, my first u/s was 6 weeks, and this time they refused to schedule me earlier than 6 weeks 4 days. 4:30 is a bit evil though. DH can make it though?
nomnom it's in the love for her post. She was trying not to AW.
jetta83306, I'd say waiting for the 1st u/s is the worst, but that's a lie. You think that til you get to wait for the next, and I assume the next.... Is it at least early in the am?
Speaking of which bostongirl617, why is your RE making you wait so long?!? (Not in a panicky way, but in a, hey, why don't you get an early u/s too? There are few perks to IF, that's one of them!)
shortstuff all I can think about is cake now! lilyharper your gif put me over the edge! I'm heading to Whole Foods now and they have a great bakery! mmmmmmm doves654 welcome back! I'm so sorry about your cousin. My u/s went great! Saw the little flickering heartbeat, it was about 100bpm. jetta83306 good luck with your u/s! Are you hoping for 2? sewfie2 I don't feel any pinching when I pee but I have started leaning forward to get more out! I have a feeling this is just the beginning of all kinds of weird pains and feelings.
Sorry I'm not responding to everyone, my desire for cake is pretty strong right now.
nomnom, can I be added? My EDD is 10/13, and I've got one bean.
How far are you now? 5w6d
How are you feeling? I cannot possibly get enough sleep. And I've been nauseous on and off, but thankful haven't actually gotten sick.
What and when is your next appointment? I have my first U/S booked for the 23rd, hoping to get good news.
QOTW: What's your job? What do you like and dislike about it? I'm a graphic designer. I love being able to be creative, and for the most part laid back. I dislike that people ask me to do free stuff for them all the time. Even AT work other departments ask to 'design business cards for their sisters husbands cousins daughters friends'. It's annoying, and I have no problem loling and saying no.
vballbaby Your symptoms sound similar to mine, except add a bit of m/s and insomnia. That's really frustrating when I'm tired and can't sleep!
shortstuff Didn't know there was special novocain. Maybe I should make that appointment soon. Does making cakes all the time add to your queasiness? The sight of food has given me problems and I've been really glad I don't work with food on a regular basis (the only time I can say that).
wazzu08 I think once baby comes along, the normal work day will definitely pay off.
lilyharper I'm okay. More below :-). My ass hurts too--2cc per night. And I have to take that shit until 15 weeks. What do you teach? (PS-I am also going to try and stalk ketchup)
sewfie2 Yeah, why am I getting out of breath too? Is that part of 1st tri or is it because I have been largely sedentary? I find that all symptoms are better when I can lay down every now and then. Maybe home is less stressful. No pinching when I pee. Maybe your ute is adjusting when the ute balloon deflates?
ginnyjones82 Oat bran is definitely better than prune juice. I don't fall asleep unexpectedly, but I move really slow and feel really dazed. Even lifting a spoon to my mouth for dinner sounds like it would take more energy than I have sometimes. What do you plan to go to school for?
bunnybun I'm reading a lot of job ads and I always cringe when it says anything about being on-call 24/7.
@buttmonkey Added. I wake up between 4am and 6am every morning to run to the bathroom and have variable success getting back to sleep. Does that count? GL with your u/s on Friday and your job! (Btw, thanks for the Ketchup note... completely missed that.)
doves654 MIA happens to everyone. Take time away as needed. I'm sorry about your cousin.
@dyork Added. Seems creative jobs get more requests for free stuff, although web programmers might get a bit of that too.
AFM... I'm 7w2d, feeling exhausted, hungry, and occasionally a bit nauseated. I went to the gym yesterday, walked a couple of miles, lifted some relatively light weights, and *had to* sleep for an hour and a half when I got home. WTF? I also got stabby pains in my lower right abdomen (ovary area) after working out. DH almost had to go get the car for me. It's better today, but again, WTF?
My next appointment is 3/2 and 3/4. I failed to get a second u/s from my RE's office.
Nothing much happening here otherwise. DH's son seems to be staying on track, which makes our lives infinitely easier. DH and I are going to Wisconsin late this week to tell my mom about her upcoming grandkids and help her write up a plan on how to help my troubled 18yo cousin. Apparently I am now the expert on troubled teens, so I've become her advisor and counselor. This seems a little early for that... I'm only 30.
QOTW: I work in public affairs at a research institution, mainly as a writer. Sometimes I don't mind it because I get to learn about a bunch of different kinds of science and I like the people I work with, but I'm getting bored with it because I don't feel like my work accomplishes much. I'm applying for other jobs since my current one has no vacation or sick leave. I ran across one over the weekend for computer programming and realized that I'm actually more qualified to be a programmer than a writer.
ETA: Maybe I should separate out my update and my responses to other people so my posts aren't so long...
Btw, for anyone else whose lower abdomen is sensitive (and possibly backside from PIO), maternity panties are awesome! I'm wearing big girl clothes again!
