is this weird? just started pumping

Since DS1 had trouble latching I pumped from the beginning with him so I didn't have this issue. I just started pumping last week to build up a stash for when I go back to work at the end of march. I have suspected I have a bit of an oversupply and pumping last week kind of verified that - I got around 2 ounces each day (only pumping once a day in the morning) which I know is a pretty good amount for just starting to pump.

I pumped Monday through Friday but didn't this weekend at all. This morning I got less than an ounce which is what I would have thought I would get last week. What gives?! Is this weird or what?

Supply naturally varies as well as let down for the pump also tends to vary. So no it's not really all that weird. Frustrating yes but pretty normal to sometimes get more or less than other times

Ok, I was hoping it was a fluke. Maybe I just didn't have the pump turned up high enough or something? Thanks!

That's awesome that you got 2 ounces every morning last week! Some pumping seasons you will pump more/less which is totally normal (for me the biggest factors were stress and hydration). Also, you didn't pump over the weekend so you told your body to make less milk. So I think it makes sense that you pumped less today. If I were you I would keep pumping every morning (during the week and weekend).

yes it could just be a fluke. or it could be just some days are going to be higher or lower.  might be how often you nursed over night, or how much water you drank, or if you didn't sleep well, or baby ate more in the middle of the night, or baby was more or less hungry, leaving less for the pump, or all sorts of things.

but you probably don't need to turn the suction up higher, really high suction can temporarily collapse the milk ducts so no milk comes out, so don't try too high of suction!
