I usually fill the bath up to where the water comes to just below DS2's belly button when he's sitting in the bath chair. Then I put him in the chair and use a wash cloth to wash him, and I use a cup to pour water over him to rinse it off.
I saw this J&J commercial where the baby was submerged in the water, and only her face was sticking out. Wouldn't it be bad to get water in her ears? Maybe I'm just extra nervous because DS1 got a lot of ear infections. Here is a picture from the commercial.
We do it similar to you. We fill up the tub to just below his chest. We drape a 2nd washcloth over him so he doesn't get cold. H pours water over him to keep him entertained while I wash him. So glad lo likes baths! And that we're done with those awful sponge baths!
I do it pretty much like in that photo. We don't have an infant tub. I fill the regular tub with 2-3 inches of water and lay him on his back. I never heard that it's bad to get water in their ears, though I generally try not to have his ears submerged.
I have a bath seat that I put in the tub and pretty much fill the tub to his waist. We also have a baby tub with a big frog sponge for him to lay on. The tub is made to go over the sink with the water running but sometimes we set it in the tub because our bathroom is a lot warmer than the kitchen. He seems to like the baby tub the best.
I use a baby tub in my tub or dining room table. I hold him in a towel football style to wash his hair after his body was washed to avoid water in the ears.
I fill the infant tub to where she is in the water about an inch. My shower head removes and is long enough to use to rinse her with in the tub so I use that and she loves it.
