By that age, an ipad was all DS needs. He doesn't even look up to ask for a snack.

My kids not quite 3 but has flown a number of times. The ipad is pretty much the only thing he wants. Oh and I'd recommend stickers and a new little toy for when you can't turn on electronics. I usually go to the dollar store and get a little airplane and DS thinks it's great to have an airplane while on the airplane. That plus snacks and wipes is all you really need.

Oh and a complete change of clothes, you never know if your kid will be air sick

I stocked up on stickers from the dollar spot and coloring books.

@ctg30, they have kid sized ear planes, which are a lifesaver. If you have any concerns about the pressure and lollipops don't do it.

We flew last May with our then 3 and 1.5 year olds and it was a 6 hour flight. The 3 year old was very good. The 1.5 year old was very rough. 3 year old just wanted electronics and snacks and otherwise was good (and he's not generally a very well behaved kid) .

Is your LO potty trained? If newly trained I would consider having them wear a pull up just in case.

Pack way extra snacks, you don't want to be short . I bought new things and he still talks about how great the snacks were.

We are flying in a few weeks with a 2.5 yr old and a 4 year old. They will both have iPads with games, shows and movies I downloaded. I will also stock the backpacks with candy, new small toys, surprise bags and eggs, busy books and these books that you can color with a pen filled with water.

Really no other things than what anyone else has said. We have a 3.5 year old boy and 1.5 year old girl and had 18/20 hour travel days with layovers and customs going to Maui this winter, and it was their first flights too. We ended up realizing we overpacked for the plane on the way there so we checked an extra bag on the way back just to have less to carry!

Our 3.5 year old was super easy, we brought his car seat on the plane with us so he was super comfortable to just sit in his seat and play games. On the way back we also let him carry his special blanket with him (we had it packed in an overhead carry on on the way there so it was less convenient to get at). Even our littlest on the way back realized just to sleep on the plane was her favourite thing to do.

Now I just can't book flights for the kids for a long time because I've probably jinxed everything by saying all that haha. I was surprised though, they were way less stressed than I worried about leading up.

+1 to the suggestion to wear a pull up on the plane since sometimes they have to pee and the fasten seat belt sign can be on for a long time

If you don't have an iPad bring headphones to listen to music or the airplane TV

Bring new toy they have never played with before to keep them entertained on plane

Bring snacks

I would pass on the lollipop just to avoid a sugared out hyper/restless kid on an airplane

iPad and snacks are necessary, so you are pretty much covered. The one thing I would add because they're fun and small is Melissa and Doug Water Wow sets. My just turned 4 year old is fascinated with them.
