Yesterday, I went in for my usual OB/ nst appt @ 3:30pm, and after she passed and my OB checked me, I asked for a membrane sweep to see if it would get things going. I was already at a solid 4 cm, so I was really hopeful. By 6pm, I was feeling contractions again, but as I'd been having them on and off for weeks I wasn't convinced that it meant anything at all. I finished the laundry I'd started earlier, got the dishes all done, and made dinner without feeling anything really different. After I got G to bed, though, things started picking up a bit. They had been frequent from the start, but they started to feel stronger. Knowing that my body had punked me out in this same way on several occasions, I just bounced on the yoga ball and tried to relax and not think about it too much. By 10pm, I decided that they were definitely strong enough to go in so I called my mom and she came down to keep an eye on the girls for the night.
Once up in L&D @ nearly 11pm, I got checked and was hovering around 5-6cm. Contractions were picking up so we walked the halls, bounced on the birthing ball, and eventually got into the jacuzzi tub to take the edge off. By 2:30am, I decided I'd had enough and called for the epidural. I was shaking so badly and having such a hard time breathing that I'm glad I made the call when I did. Anesthesiology came up fairly quickly, but I had a vein that was in the way and kept getting nicked. 4 attempts later, it was finally in, but took about a half an hour to take full affect. I was so happy just to have the pain back down to a manageable 6, but a little while later I was totally numbed up and feeling great and 6cm. It was about 3:45am, so DH and I decided to get some sleep but I couldn't quite turn off my brain. At 5:50am, little lady had a sharp heart deceleration and the nurses came rushing in. Turns out her head was being squeezed and she was ready to be out. They barely had time to get the midwife in the room when my water literally burst and she was out in one push! Right at 6am. Sab.ine Mar.guerite was 7lbs 3oz, 20.5", and has such soft little light brown hair. She also makes the most adorable cooing sounds, but I'm probably just being partial.
We're doing well so far. Sore and tired but so happy and itching to get home.
Thank you all for the love tits and support! These past few weeks have felt grueling!
