The nanny cancelled today. And Monday. FML. We were supposed to go on vacation next week but I'm tempted to cancel, because now I have no childcare to get all of the work I was supposed to get done before the vacation so I'll be working the whole damn time anyway.

Uh...what was the reason for canceling?? This seems a bit premature.

Her grandma had a heart attack so they're going to see her, so I get it. Obviously won't work if this happens regularly. She was incredibly apologetic.

Oh yikes. This is definitely a legitimate reason - I was just making sure it wasn't something kind of bogus, especially so soon after starting. Still a bummer...for both of you.
That moment when you log into your online banking account and your tax refund has been deposited and for a second you don't think of that and you're like, "OMG. Wtf is happening? I'm rich bitch!!!"

Best. When mine came in, I may or may not have done a happy dance.
Our tax refund was deposited last week, a week before they said it would be, and it was a pretty sweet feeling!
I took DD2 to get her palate expander put in this morning. I didn't think she'd ever stop talking long enough to let them install it. And then she didn't stop talking afterwards, as she was practicing how to talk with it in. I was so sick of hearing her voice that I'm enjoying the peace and quiet at work. LOL I kept DD1 home from school today because her throat hurt more than it did yesterday and her temp was just under 100, so I knew that at some point, I'd get a call from the nurse to pick her up. I don't think she has strep; I think it's from post nasal drip. I hope. So, my parents have all three kids today, then Monday and Tuesday (no school).
jcrewgirl how do you lose weight while nursing? Can you give me a run down of calorie totals/ types of foods?
Oh lord. Honestly, I don't know. With both kids, I was lucky that I basically lost all the weight within the first few weeks. I'm 5-6 lbs over where I was (135 lb) when I got pregnant with E. 135 is a doable weight for me to maintain. I'm never going to be in the 120s, but I was confident, happy, eating healthy and working out. I recognize that before kids, I had the time to go to the gym 5-6 days/week. I don't have that luxury now. Since I've gone back to work 5-6 weeks ago, I lost 3 lbs and I'm attributing that to going to the gym at least twice a week during my lunch hour and packing health(ier) lunches and snacks. I don't count calories. My typical work day looks something like this (I pump 3x at work):
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with spinach, some deli ham, and other veggies on hand (peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc.) or Oatmeal w/fruit ALWAYS coffee with the delicious flavored creamers - usually 2 cups at work.
Lunch: whatever was leftover from dinner or a lean cuisine steamer or sandwich or a salad piece of fruit
PM Snack: Something like a piece of fruit, nuts, pretzels, yogurt
Dinner: Anything (I try and make myself eat a smaller portion)
I try not to snack at night, but I usually either have a glass of wine after dinner while watching TV with DH or working from home for a bit. I recently have been drinking these spiked seltzers and I LOVE them - they are only 140 calories/can:
I think for me it's getting in my workouts. I am so sore the night after a good workout and usually the following day as well. I do classes that are a mix of cardio, weights and plyo.
Not jcrewgirl but wei.ght. wat.chers for me. Boring boring boring but it works.
Did they add in extra calories for nursing? How do you keep track/ meal plan? Any supply issues?
Nursing/pumping is supposed to burn an extra 200-500 calories a day.
My supply hasn't tanked, but some days I'll pump 14 oz at work and some days it will be 18 oz so it does very for me. That may be attributed to the days I work out - I never thought about it.
Thanks for the breakdown jcrewgirl. I've been trying to be healthier but I'm not finding time to work out. My weight is actually going up. I weigh about the same as when I left the hospital- I had been about 10 lbs lower at one point pp, but now I'm back to the original weight. I'm hoping my thyroid is to blame but I also know I should eat less/ better and start moving. Then I get nervous about supply and I'm so hungry. I have cheerios, nuts, and light cheese to snack on. I need to start doing more hard boiled eggs. I usually do a sandwhich and veggies for lunch but maybe my dinner portion is too big. I also then am hungry again and want a snack before bed. Idk how I can cut down on the hunger. And the sugar cravings.
We haven't received a refund since having kids. I remember when I single, I'd get back like $3k. THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
Really?? Our refunds were minimal pre-kids. Now we're riiich!! LOL. Just kidding. But we get substantially more back than we did pre. Also that last year and part of the previous year I only worked very PT.
britta, so jealous. The government basically thinks that we are very, very rich and therefore we aren't eligible for a lot of exemptions which is hysterical considering our monthly cash flow. Fuck, high COLAs. The cost of daycare kills us. $2600/month is ridiculous.
becole - are there any gyms you can go to? I LOVE the Les Mills programs - I've had huge success taking those classes. Body pump, body combat, and cxworx are some of my favorites. & the sugar cravings are very, very real. I can't stop craving dark chocolate and Swedish fish.
There are close gyms that would take maybe 8-10 minutes to drive to. I know a lot of the classes are 50 minutes, it would be hard for me to do. Especially with changing clothes. I am going to start walking or running at lunch now that it's getting warmer.

Wow. Same re: the government thinks we're super rich. I'm actually NOT looking forward to next year since I will be FT again for the majority of this year. Both our incomes push us into a higher tax bracket and we don't typically get much back. It's ridiculous to think about when we pay about as much in taxes as some people earn in year.
You def have us beat with the daycare situation. We'll pay $1600/mo for FT care. Yeah LCOL area! You can claim the childcare tax credit though, no?
britta, yes, but we can only partially claim them because we're in a higher tax bracket. Blows.
I can't wait until DD is in kindergarten. I'm imagining you must feel super rich when you have that daycare $ in your pocket. I know there will be expenses for before or after school care programs, sports, etc., but I highly doubt it will be $2600/month. It better not be at least.
I heard back from the pediatrician today regarding DS' MRI. The MRI looks fine! No masses or tumors, no extra fluid. Blood vessels look healthy. The radiologist reported a small area in the brainstem that "lit up" a little more, but also mentioned that this could be a normal variant in children, so nothing to worry about at this time! We are so relieved! Next step is the consult with a neurologist to figure out why he has this pressure. We have an appointment in two weeks with them, and we will go from there!
Today i am running around cleaning and getting together last minute stuff for DS' birthday party tomorrow!

jcrewgirl do you guys have free pre-k? We do here (GA), so once my kids start pre-k we get a "raise". DS1 went from $170/wk to $60/wk when he started pre-k (because we still needed before and after care). Now he's in kindergarten and it's $75 for before/after and also bus to and from (his daycare transports him to and from school). It's amazing to have that money back. I'm counting down the days til DS2 starts pre-k (a year and a half but who's counting??).

Not here - they have headstart but according to the site
"Head Start/Early Head Start program provides a quality preschool experience with comprehensive services at no cost to qualifying families who reside in ____ County. Your family may qualify for Head Start if you have a child who will be age 3, 4 or 5 (not eligible for Kindergarten) by October 1st, receive free or reduced-price school meals, TANF, Social Security Income, and/or homeless per definition of the McKinney Vento Act and receive resources such as from a shelter and/or a homeless liaison office."

Well that's a bummer. Ours is funded through the lottery so it's our state pre-k program and luckily, the daycare we use also has the pre-k program there. I wish it was something everyone could do. It's a great program and you just can't argue with it being free.
All I will say - in warning - is REMEMBER that once your kids start school (kindergarten and up) that you still have to pay for the times they are out of school like holidays, spring break, and summer. And that crap is expensive and you FORGET about it until it comes time to pay. Summer is actually the worst. I'm very, very lucky that my DH is a teacher so he's out for the summer but he still has some baseball duties where we have to keep our kids in daycare for most of the month of June and it SUCKS to pay for our oldest to be there when we aren't really accustomed to it.
@holachica it's gorgeous here too! 55* right now!! When our average high for this time of year is 33*, I'll take it. I say it all the time, but then the sun is out it does wonders for my state of mind.
