glb30 that's a great thought. I haven't pumped yet but will be to build a stash for occassional work travel/the rare date night, so maybe I will start. I used to pump once before bed with dd1 to build a stash and would usually get about 5oz total, with about 2oz of it being foremilk so I'll be interested to see what it's like this time. Thanks for the idea!
Just reporting back, after less than 12 hours of being more attentive to her emptying 1 boob, As poops are much better! I'm still working on how many hours/feeds to stick to 1 side before switching but it's pretty clear that's all the issue is. I also realized I need to give her way more time to eat. I didn't realize dd1 was apparently super efficient because she would empty both sides in 10 mins and be done. A clearly needs at least 20 mins on 1 side at this point. Thanks for the help everyone!
If your baby keeps pulling on your nipple- as I bring his head back while still latches to stretch the nipple is that a sign of too slow of a flow for him? He does this before he gets fussy and then we move on to a bottle.

Babies get easily distracted while nursing. Pulling/pulling off could be anything from them experimenting to forgetting what they're doing to flow frustration, etc etc etc. They'll also get fussy at times. It's hard to not jump to conclusions, but usually it's because babies are crazy.
Basically, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Babies also get more efficient as they move out of the tiny newborn age, so it can also signal that they are done eating - though in your case it sounds like that's not it since then he's getting a bottle.
Feeling like a newb... T is sucking really hard with the bottle. Does this mean the nipple is too slow?
I know zero things about bottle feeding, but why not give a size up a try? I think I recall something about babies collapsing bottle nipples when they're no longer the right size.

This. When DS1 was sucking hard enough to collapse the nipple, we moved from the premie nipple to the size 1.

Yes that is normally what happens when you need to move up. With BF though it's tricky because you don't want them to get used to a faster flow and refuse the boob. Anyway, T is doing better so I think he was just getting used to the bottle while I am away.

I have a very forceful letdown on one side. DD starts frequently pulling off like your description when the initial letdown is over and she has to start working for her food. I keep relatching her until she is no longer interested in eating or my breast feels drained and I can't easily express a little milk out with my fingers. I switch breasts/give a bottle at that point. YMMV. 🙂
