We need to: - stain the second crib. - set up the nursery - buy a storage shelf for the closet for clothing - wash and put away clothing and bedding - do freezer meals
I went back to look what I wrote in February, and I didn't participate. I think it was so anxiety producing that I skipped it. But it was a productive month! I have nine weeks to go today, if I make it that far.
Things checked off the list: - half finished dining room DIY reno is now fully finished, minus pictures hung - new car purchased - confirmed two spots for daycare - pediatrician selected - cribs and dresser ordered - nursery closet organized (thanks to The Container Store's elfa sale) - shower was this weekend, so pack and plays and rock and plays are here - primer and ceiling painted in nursery
March things: - hardwood installed upstairs - bathroom renovation starting - set up nursery (finish painting, assemble cribs) - trip to Ikea for high chairs and nursery throw rug - test carseat installation - pack hospital bag for me and babies - make some freezer meals
Thanks ladies! DD is a little shy of 21 months so it's def soon to be starting. I don't think DH realized that kids don't realize they have to pee till it's happening, and it's up to you to take them to the bathroom every 30-45 mins. Gonna be interesting! But I'm not too concerned if she doesn't pick it up right away.

That's a good attitude to have regarding potty training. MH wanted to push DD before she was ready and it backfired. DD does not respond to pressure at all - she basically shuts down and does the exact opposite of what you're trying to get her to do.

Question for M17. We put the changing pad on top of the dresser and use it almost exclusively. With DD's dresser, there was about 5" between the long edge of the changing pad and the edge of the dresser so we never worried about it slipping off. With baby's dresser, I noticed that there is only maybe 1.5" between the edge of the changing pad and edge of dresser. They make a changing tray for the dresser and we could get it for about $80. Would you get the changing tray just to make sure the pad stays on the dresser or do you think 1.5" is enough clearance?
sleepymonkey can you Velcro the changing pad to the top of the dresser? Or you could just get a piece of 2x2 and nail it into the top front to create a lip and paint/stain it to match the dresser. I don't know how nice the dresser is and if you are open to monkeying with it a bit but $80 kind of a lot.

PirateCat, the dresser is new and we plan on keeping it until it falls apart, which will hopefully be well in to his teen years, so we don't really want to doctor it too much.

Did your changing pad come with one of those straps that anchor it behind the dresser?
Or maybe put a piece of that non-skid stuff used under area rugs?

chknma, we haven't actually bought the changing pad yet, we just based the clearance on DD's old changing pad that we're getting rid of. I didn't realize there were ones with anchor straps. That may be the solution!
sleepymonkey we put a changing pad on top of C's dresser and still use it pretty much exclusively also. Our dresser is maybe a quarter of an inch wider than the changing pad. We've never had an issue. Very rarely if C is acting crazy she'll pull it down with her as I lift her off but that's no big deal, I just put it back. Obviously I never step away from her while she's on there but it's worked for us and we have the same setup in baby boys room. Our changing pad has that strap to anchor it to the back of the dresser but we've just never done it.
Get the toddler to sleep through the night again (he's like a newborn again with how much he wakes up lately)
Move toddler into brother's room to make room for new baby in our room.
Continue to dream of moving into a house with enough bedrooms to fit all the kids and I get a child free room
This is us too. Our house is only a 2 bedroom.... and DS obviously uses the 2nd bedroom... and now we have a girl on the way. Welp... it'll work for now but we're starting to look in case something pops up. It also doesn't help that our bedrooms are tiny. We have to put DS' bureau in the basement to fit a crib.

I would think you'll be fine. Anytime I changed DS I never walked away so there was really no risk. I can't imagine what could possibly happen so long as you don't walk away, ya know? You could add that rubbery non-slip thin mat underneath so that it doesn't shift when LO is squirming?

My To-Do List is to start a list...........
I really need to finish going through DS' old clothes. I have bags and bags of clothes and DS will be turning 3 at the end of the month. I'm able to keep a bunch of things that are gender neutral and I'd like to sell the rest online.
I should probably contact my health insurance and get a breast pump.
I also want to do a real good deep clean of DS' cloth diapers (BumGenius 4.0) now that DS is in undies. I won't need them right away but it'd be nice if they were ready and clean.
I also typed up my hospital bag list.... since my due date is the very end of May I don't feel the rush yet.
sleepymonkey our dresser is about the same depth as the pad. We screwed the safety strap into the back of the dresser. You could also attach it to the wall.

We took down the baby stuff from the attic and now I just have to check it out. We only found 2 of the 3 bases for the car seat so if we can't find the third one, we may be buying a new seat (we need a base for my car, H's car and my parents since they'll be watching him).
I was sure we had some gender neutral sleepers from DD that we could reuse for baby boy. I found one. And it's a heavy fleece sleeper which will not be needed in FL in May. Everything else is a sea of pink and purple.

Bumping this post because 1) I'm working on my to-do list since I now suddenly feel like I need to get more organized....so I'll reply with something more detailed and 2) I'm curious about everyone's progress. How's it going now that we're halfway through March?
I haven't done anything yet, I think I may be the Queen on Procrastination. We are hoping to get the spare bed out of the nursery today so that's something?
Mostly I find myself stalling because I'm dreading putting DS1 into a twin bed.
Gah, I can't believe March is halfway over. I like the mid-month check-in. My progress so far:
- sign up for birthing class and hospital tour - call pediatricians - buy crib mattress and car seat (most likely buying this week) - paint desk in nursery/guest room (about halfway done) - wash baby clothes and start putting them away - organize nursery closet - read birthing book and research active management of third-stage labor
I did buy most of my diaper stash so I'll have to wash and prep those. And I would really like to sew a crib skirt and at least find fabric for curtains.

Since we are mostly sitting around waiting for April to get here to really buckle down we haven't done much, but here's some things that we have done:
-I went through DS's diapers and am donating a few that elastics are shot (I'm not crafty or patient enough to replace) -we are working on moving the floating shelf that's above the changing table into nursery/guest room. I took it down yesterday and H will put it up this weekend. -started grocery list for freezer meals
What I'd like to do: -finish installing floating shelf -paint diaper hanger thingy -trim tree in front
It's this thing that you put on the wall that has a couple hooks (words are escaping me for the proper name for this). I use it to hang my wet diaper bag. The one I have has a couple owls on it so I'd like to paint over it and do something with Elephants since that's our theme for the new room.

Hehe, ok, elephant diaper hanger thingy.
SIL got me a hanging wet diaper bag - do you like yours? I thought I would use a pail with a liner but I guess I should give the bag a try.

I do. I had a planet wise one, but then the stitching started coming undone in one spot so it started leaking. I got a replacement for it though. I like bags because I can just throw it in the wash with the diapers.

Yea, that's the one she got me. I keep reading that it's best to have air flow in the pail to keep the smell down so I wondered about the zippered bag. Do you keep it zipped the whole way and does it smell bad when you open it?

Mid-month check-in:
Finish nursery, which means getting accessories and wall decor Get DD's baby gear down from attic, see what is still usable and clean it up Wash all newborn and 3mo clothes and whatever we can reuse from DD Purchase the "must haves" from our registry, which means a trip to Orlando or West Palm to go to BBB and BRU (Scheduled to do 3/25) Start thinking about what I want to pack in the hospital bag (will probably pack at the end of March/beginning of April) Sibling class for DD at the hospital (Scheduled for 3/28) Take DD to Seaworld one last time before baby boy (and summer) comes (Going on 3/26)
So I have partly completed two things. Yikes. We got all of the baby stuff down from the attic but H piled it all in the nursery so I'm having a hard time finishing the nursery with a bunch of boxes in there. We pretty much have no clothes that are reusable from DD because everything is definitely girly but those 4 boxes of clothes will hopefully be gone next week when MIL comes because we're giving them to one of SIL's friends who is having a baby girl in April.
Here's what I put: move all the furniture from the study and turn it back into a nursery again. Done! meet the rest of the midwives at the birth center and get the info I need about delivering there. Done start on my freezer meals Started! Burritos, and egg muffin tin baked breakfasts complete. finish tracking down all our loaned out baby gear. Figured out where it all is, now I need to retrieve it Maybe plan a vacation for some point while we're on leave. <- Haven't started, forgot this was even on the list
Still to do: Dinner freezer meals, I'll start those next weekend I hope Start figuring out work hand-off for while I'm on leave.

Not who you asked, but we use both a hanging wet bag (a large planet wise, not the lite style) and pail with liner. The hanging bag is kept open in the bedroom and is for pee only diapers. The pail is in the bathroom and for soiled diapers since we spray them off there. We keep the lid closed, but the liner bunches at top and keeps it open a slight bit. We have a regular trash can with a step opener
