Still breastfeeding?

Is anyone else still breastfeeding?

My DS is 2.5 and still nurses morning, before nap, and before bed. I would love to let him self-wean, but I think I need to wean him ASAP now. I was so sick when I was pregnant with him and on anti-nausea medicines, and it will almost certainly be the same this time. I think I have about 3 weeks before I'm full-on vomiting all the time, but completely weaning him by then is going to be so hard! (Night weaning was enough of a struggle!!)

I'm not still breastfeeding and our journey ended pretty naturally, she ended up just stopping at night. Have you tried offering whole milk at the times you would breastfeed?

jax1182014 I was the same way! One day I started throwing up and just didn't stop for weeks. So I had to tell my boss at like 7 weeks. It was awful! I didn't go back to work until 16weeks or so.

Sadly DS has reflux issues and can't drink any kind of milk bc it makes him spit up. He also just isn't into food at all, so there's no good way to bribe/distract him.... I'm sure both things relate to why he's still nursing!

Oh poor DS with the reflux :/ distracting was totally was I was going for lol maybe this one won't be as bad and you can continue BF 🙏🏻

Not breastfeeding but pumping, dd is 13 months and I pump 4 times a day. I am trying to start not just offering a bottle and waiting for her to tell me she wants one. I would like to try and let her wean herself off the breastmilk but at the same time I want to pump through the pregnancy to try and have a good shot of breastfeeding next time.

Thank you, it's hard to believe she is a toddler! I think it has just become part of our routine, and for us it has been so much better than nursing. I pump 40min /day and she always would nurse for 1hour minimum each nursing session. Making the switch at 3months saved our breastmilk relationship.

We haven't tried any other milk, I am okay with her having breastmilk for as long as she wants. That being said, we drink goats milk in our house and I have been waiting for her to get the hang of a sippy cup before introducing a different milk. She eats lots of cheese and yogurt so I am not worried about calcium.

My son doesn't drink any other kind of milk either, so I was just wondering. He also didn't eat any cheese or yogurt until recently.... But he's super tall, so I guess he was getting enough calcium from breastmilk!

buttercup I think my supply is already down too, because for the first time ever DS is showing less than rabid interest in nursing

amadine23, I'm not nursing anymore now, but I was in the fall when I was pregnant. At that point, we were pretty much down to twice a day and MOTN. I wasn't puking but I had 24-7 nausea and it was really sucky. We night weaned at Christmas (I initiated, he hated it) and then fully weaned in January (I also initiated, he was fine with it and distracting with books/toys worked fine) and I am very glad. Maybe the other nursing sessions will also be easier for your DS like it was for mine (I mean easier than MOTN).

That's encouraging! I hope so! I think my supply is down, because he's nursing less suddenly... I'm holding out hope he'll wean on his own or without too much sadness.

When I got pregnant in August, it was pretty obvious before I even took a test. DS was NOT interested in nursing for about a week. I think the taste of the milk changed or something and then he either got used to it or it returned to "normal" because he went back to nursing as usual.

Still breastfeeding my 21 month old, too. He just uses it as a crutch to go to sleep before nap and bed/MOTN. But, gah, my tits are so sore rn. I think I may need to wean this kid soon. I have had mastitis twice since DS was born and I feel like this is worse. It's also so painful in the shower. Anyway, Sorry if TMI, just venting.

whoopsadaisy I've had mastitis too and that sounds awful! I'm sorry! I told myself I'd aggressively wean the minute I got a BFP, but it's been 2 weeks and I've made no effort. My DS mostly uses it as a sleep crutch too, but is perfectly capable of sleeping by himself. I need to just stop being a pushover...

amadine23, Oh man, yes. I'm such a pushover. He wakes up MOTN and goes, "momma here? momma here?" And I just can't help myself. I don't even know where to start with weaning and, to be honest, I've pretty mush never put him to sleep any other way. Occasionally he naps in the car. I know that's bad, but its true. I dug my own grave here.

whoopsadaisy I'm right there with you! We did switch to DH doing bedtime several months ago so he couldn't nurse to sleep, and I did finally night wean him after months of effort. But he still nurses when he first wakes around 5am, then 7am, then before​ nap, then as part of his bedtime routine.... So basically, I still have a long way to go!

I'm still nursing DD2 (20 months) but I'm so ready to be done. She nurses about 4 times a day- wake up, a couple times during the day and before bed. I panned on nursing until 12 months, I didn't realize it would be so difficult to wean her. I am not going to tandem nurse, so this little girl needs to get on the weaning train ASAP.

mrspiatt I certainly did not plan on nursing so long either and am ready to be done! I'm trying to wean now. Sometimes DS is distracted and forgets, but definitely not every time! I also have no interest in tandem nursing.

When I quit working for my last company, ds3 started nursing more and I've not been able to night wean him. I was kind of hoping this pregnancy would dry me up, but so far, still going strong, to encourage the night weaning.

I just got my DS night weaned in the last couple months, and he's close to 3. Lol! I have him down to one session now (and am trying to wean) bc of how sick I get while pregnant. Good luck with the night weaning! It's so hard when they're really attached to it.

So my OB told me last week that I need to stop breastfeeding by 15 weeks because of the risk of preterm labor to the baby. But, I don't have any risk factors for preterm labor (that I know of). Is anyone else hearing something similar?
