I only nurse morning and bedtime (sometimes at daycare pickup) and don't pump during the day any longer, but I was away two days and would have been in bad shape without my pump. I had to add a third session, I assume because the pump is less efficient than my LOs.
I'm a little late, but jumping in to say that I was in a similar situation with DS1. I was going on a week long international trip when he was 12.5 months. I didn't want to deal with trying to transport milk and decided to use the opportunity to wean.
I got down to nursing once a day before the trip, occasionally every other day if I wasn't home for bedtime. I meant to bring my manual pump to relieve engorgement, but accidentally left one of the pieces at home. I got pretty uncomfortable for the second half of the trip and didn't have much luck hand expressing.
When I got home, I had DS nurse once to relieve the engorgement, and it took some persuasion to get him to nurse. After that, he never expressed any interest in nursing more and we were done.
