Mark this down in "things I should already know but don't."
4.5yo DD has a stomach bug. She started vomiting at 4am Monday and she's still puking when we try a bite or two of crackers. She went back to bed around 11:30 this morning and has been asleep ever since with maybe a 20-minute awake time around 3pm.
It's now 5pm. Should I wake her up to check on how she's feeling and push a sip or two of water? My ulterior motive is concern that she won't be tired any more come bed. Or leave her to sleep, knowing she may be up for hours at 10pm?
My daughter is the same age and she hasn't had any illnesses where she's slept all day. That said, I would have the same concern as you about her then being up all night. I would probably wake her and try to keep her up for a few hours if possible so that you can then do the normal bedtime routine.
DD (5.5) ran a fever a few weeks back and slept basically all day (10-4 with maybe a 15 minute wake up to pee) and then slept for 13 hours that night. I was worried she wouldn't sleep either but the bug really kicked her butt and the sleep really did help. She was back to her perky self the next day but still couldn't go to school. I will say she was totally tuckered by the end of the school day all week and was early to bed and late to get up the rest of the week.
DS had a four day stomach bug last week. He didn't sleep though. During the day or night. . .
Looked great today. Ate. Played. Everything good until 3pm when she started puking again. Put her to bed again at 5pm and she's been mostly asleep since.
I am bummed. (A) I feel bad for her. She was so sad to still be sick! (B) I feel stressed and frustrated. Mommy and daddy need to go to work!
