I thought I'd start a separate thread after posting in nb thread. It's been 2 weeks and I'm not seeing a big improvement in DD's thrush. We've been doing nystatin and I started religiously cleaning my nips and applying motherlove thrush cream. I'm not experiencing any noticeable symptoms on my nips, I did just get over a vaginal yeast infection and finished my last dose of Diflucan. She is still nursing, and her diaper output and weight gain are still doing ok. But she is definitely having discomfort while nursing. Sometimes she seems fine, other times she is pulling off and making clicking noises, so I know it's bothering her. I just picked up some GSE today and going to start using that. But I will take any and all advice on how we can kick this! And for those that have dealt with thrush, what is a reasonable amount of time for it to be cleared up?
i would think that you'd be seeing some improvement by now, although thrush can be very persistent.
have you washed all of your bras/towels/etc. (not sure how old LO is, but also burp cloths/bibs if you use them) in a hot water wash with a cupful of vinegar added?
you could add in a probiotic, or push yogurt if LO is old enough for solids.
i would definitely circle back with your pediatrician at this point, if your LO is still having discomfort.

I haven't washed bras etc with vinegar. I will try that! I am sanitizing pacis and bottles when used. DD is only 2.5 months so no yogurt for her but I do give her the Gerber probiotic drops. And I've been eating yogurt and taking probiotic every morning. Tuesday was 2 weeks of treatment and I called the pedi at that point. They said to just continue the dose of nystatin (I got a refill) and call back if it's not cleared after it's finished. I'm frustrated with the fact that pedi said to just continue, I just wonder what I'm missing in getting this cleared up quick.
How are you applying it? It works best when it is allowed to sit on the affected area. It is safe to eat, but is not really an oral medicine that you squirt down the throat. I would divide the dose up and put a third on one cheek, then the other and finally on the tongue. Focus the most on the white spots. Also, I would coat my nipples with the prescription as well to lessen passing g it back and forth.
Just seeing this, I was squirting on the tongue and then rubbing it around with a q-tip. She would swallow some and spit out some. We saw a different pedi again. She actually didn't think it was thrush bc it was only on the tongue and nowhere else, even tho first pedi diagnosed thrush. Anyway, she prescribed diflucan for baby to try and see if it will clear up bc I just didn't feel like it was improving. It does seem to be getting better now but still white and cottage cheese-looking on her tongue. Nursing is improving a bit but have an LC appt tomorrow to see what they say. Thanks for all the tips ladies!
