Hi, all. I don't really have a clever name for my rainbow. I looked up the name of Madame Bovary's daughter and it was Berthe, so I'll go with "Bertha."
I'll do a bullet point summary.
5 lbs 14 oz, I got to see her and my husband did skin to skin while they waited for me in recovery. Her blood sugar was low but they were able to hand express enough colostrum to bring it up. It was all very scary, sudden, and surreal.
She's here, she's perfect. I'm healing well. Nursing is going well. Rainbow #1 acting out a bit but loves her and always wants to check on her and know what she's doing.
I'll do a bullet point summary.
- Woke up the morning of Wed, March 8 and realized baby girl hadn't woken me up with her movements like she usually does. I could still feel her wiggling away in there, but it was less freqent and weaker
- Called OB office at 7, but they couldn't do anything for me until triage nurse came in at 8. I was already halfway to the hospital by the time she returned my call (which, to be fair, was shortly after 8). I lost it when I called my MIL and FIL so they could keep rainbow #1. I'm not sure she understood what was going on, other than they needed to get here pronto.
- Calmed down on the way to L&D and after talking to triage nurse. Still, better safe than sorry.
- Expected a couple hours of monitoring and a patronizing pat on the back about overreacting
- My OB was already at hospital for a C-section so he stopped in and ordered a BPP, which showed low amniotic fluid and limp arms.
- When I came back to triage, the nurse told me I wasn't going home. Totally lost it. I was 37w5d and NOT ready.
- I hear that the plan is to induce and I call my husband.
- Husband arrives and I start fluids, but she experienced some significant decels during my own random contractions. OB busted in and said it's time. He went to go get scrubs for my husband and I was being prepped for surgery and signing all the consent forms. To the mother whose scheduled twin C section got bumped, I am sorry, and thank you for understanding.
- *****Scary shit alert***** Her cord was wrapped tightly around her neck.
- We received EXCELLENT care at the hospital and I am so grateful.
- Special shout out to the nurse who stayed in the bathroom with me getting me to blow bubbles through a straw and smell peppermint oil trying to get me to pee on my own after the catheter was taken out.
