DH jokes that my music (esp. my fave band, The National) is the genre of "suicide music" because he thinks it's all depressing, but I lurve that stuff because I think it's beautiful music. One time a song I like was on a commercial, and I pointed it out to him and said, "Listen to how upbeat and cheerful that music is - not all my music is depressing!" Then he asked me what the song was actually about, and I had to admit it was about an alcoholic going through the DTs and realizing he was going to drink himself to death.
Here are some songs I find particularly sad/moving:
"About Today" - The National "O Children" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (aka that song Harry and Hermione dance to in Deathly Hollows I) "Mad World" - Gary Jules version from Donny Darko "Hold on Hope" - Guided by Voices (a more recent thing with all the IF shit) "Sense" - Pete Yorn (again, also more an IF thing) "White Flag" - Dido - gets me every time!
requiressnacks, how did I forget Hallelujah?!? Tears always. Although I prefer the Rufus Wainwright version from when I first heard it during a particularly sad episode of Scrubs that I also can't watch without crying.

I'll have to look that version up! Pretty much any version can make me cry.

I just discovered I have been totally wrong about Scrubs! It was the John Cale version on Scrubs. Apparently whatever disreputable place I downloaded the Rufus Wainwright song from for free in 2003 totally lied to me about it being the Scrubs version and I have been wrong ever since. But Rufus Wainwright version > John Cale version IMO.

daisy818 , did you use Napster to download that song? The Pirate Bay? Then did you burn it onto a CD? God I'm old.
I think I was using Kazaa at the time. We also had a file sharing system on my college intranet, so I also might have gotten it that way. Then I would play it on my laptop via my sweet WinAmp player with some super cool skin.

+1 Say Something Black covered by Aaron Lewis & in Spanish Amor Eterno by Rocio Durcal- she wrote this song after her daughter drowned. So many tears since I could understand the lyrics but almost unbearable after my mom died.

Our Farewell, by Within Temptation, my favorite band. I listened to it non stop on repeat after my first loss, and I sobbed so hard to it. Still brings a tear to my eye sometimes, even though I've heard it a gazillion times youtu.be/sGceZX84LlQ

Man, I've been thinking about this all day. I feel like it's songs in movies or plays that affect me the most. "I Know Where I've Been" from Hairspray is so moving and heartbreaking to me and makes me cry.
"Vivir Mi Vida" by Marc Anthony brings happy tears of good memories
You are definitely not the only one. I have sooo many songs that make me literally cry when I hear them. Music feels can get next level. There are some songs that I try to make sure I'm alone if I want to listen to them, so that people don't see me get all emotional about them.
'Forever Young' by Rod Stewart has made me cry like 4 times today.
@xamountofwords OMG This song is beautiful and sad. It brings back all the feelings I had when I was TTC my DD. It took almost a year and everyone around me was having babies and it was so, so hard. Thanks for sharing this, I love this song so much.

Miranda Lambert "Over you". It was always a sweet song, but after my first loss, I was a mess during the song at her concert. She came up to me and touched my hand while I was crying, actually. Anyway, I still get choked up when I hear it now and it has special meaning to me about our babies.

You are all heartless. Not one person mentioned "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. Insta-tears.
I also love the Jeff Buckley Version of "Hallelujah". I am not totally in love with the original Leonard Cohen version but it's cool to listen to him perform it.
"All You Need is Love" by The Beatles makes me cry because of Love Actually. Ugh, can't believe I'm admitting that.
Some of my more unconventional picks include: "Love You 'Till The End" by The Pogues "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" by Flogging Molly "Gone Away" by Offspring (totally dating myself with that song) "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young "America" by Simon & Garfunkel (It was my parents' wedding song and the father/daughter dance for my wedding)
