Is it really the same to call it Working Parents as Working Moms? I voted as if it was then wondered...

The more I think about it, the more I think that for most women, being a working mother is different than being a working father. And that there's a lack of equality that underlies the term "working parent" as there are still a different set of assumptions, largely based on gender, that pervade these terms.

Who does the school call first when a child throws up (in my case, even when it is not my biological child)?
Who gets a giant pat on the back at work for taking a day off with a sick child (I know it's not the people with the girl parts)?
Who receives a hero's welcome when they dress multiple children and show up for a school event alone?
Who takes maternity leave and has to worry about FMLA?

I agree with you 2chatter. I also don't think we are going to end up with (m)any working dads on this board.

I agree with you 2chatter. I also don't think we are going to end up with (m)any working dads on this board. 

If we do end up with dads on this board then it'll make the SOS's much more interesting.

There are major differences between working moms and dads for sure, but I think cohabiting the board would allow for a greater diversity if we ever did get a working dad's opinion. I think that would be very valuable. Certain threads could pertain to specific struggles of a working mom, and if this grows I could see a dad coming here and asking the same questions (ex- One of my employees is newly back to work.. we created a BFing room in our small office, but she Bfs every 15 mins, or she is parading around topless...idk how to handle it---I am reaching as you can see, but it could be nice for a working dad to have this sort of audience sometimes too.)

Yes, in about 12 years on parenting boards, the only Dads I have seen are SAHDs, and those were rare.

I can't say I disagree, but it would be cool, and changing moms to parents would at least open the door? idk.
