We are very close to selecting Audrey as a first name. It has no personal connection to either of our families, as opposed to DS who is named after my dad and DHs grandfather (first and middle name respectively). Now I'm wondering about using my maiden as her middle....
My maiden name is very much a last name. It's Irish and would never pass as a first name or a girls name.

Go for it! We're using my grandmother's name for this LO's middle name and it's by no means a name that people under the age of 70 typically have. And it totally doesn't flow with the first name we chose. But the look on my mom's face when I told her we were using her mom's name for the baby's MN was worth it
My SIL's MN is MIL's maiden name, which is very much a surname, and I think it is totally fine. I think SIL's next kid will have the same MN too, regardless of gender.
My DS#2's middle name is my maiden name (albeit, my maiden name is also somewhat widely used as a boy's first name). However, my middle name is my grandmother's maiden name (McC.lain) and I love it! So my vote is YES. lol.
Me: 32, Wife: 38, Together for 5 years, Married for 2 years IUI #1 (8/2016): Letrozole, Ovidrel, Crinone = BFN IUI #2 (9/2016): Letrozole, Ovidrel, Endometrin = BFP!! EDD 5/26/17
I think it is fine and have many friend with both daughters and sons that carry their maiden names as middle names....I changed my middle name to my maiden name after getting married....it very much is only a last name..... I just put that out to see if you would be upset if your daughter did the same thing since it will have more meaning then just a random middle name....not a reason not to do it, but something to be okay with if she makes such a choice :-) *my mom wasn't happy that I did that ;-)

I don't think it's strange at all. When I got married, I changed my middle name to my maiden name and it is also very much a last name and would not pass as a first name.
I know several people who have done that, most with the mother's maiden name and one actually with the paternal grandmother's maiden name. I definitely don't think it's weird.

Thanks for the feedback! I don't know anyone that has their mother's maiden name as their middle... had no idea how common it was! Kinda excited about possibly doing this!
