yl - you can wear t-shirts to work? Our teachers could not, so maybe my view is informed by that, but I wouldn't wear that to work unless I worked for a specifically feminist organization, like NOW or NARAL.

I just ate like 6 cuties and a bunch of pineapple and now my tongue feels like it's on fire.
Also, are our kids old enough to lie? Because it seems like Bill is doing something similar to, if not outright lying... it's not malicious, but it's sort of funny and I'm not sure I should encourage it (I mostly just laugh at him).
Examples:
1)
Me: Bill, do you have my sunglasses and keys? Bill (who clearly has both): *hides hands behind his back* "NOOoooOOO" (sing-songy voice) Then he will run to the other room and come back showing the sunglasses and keys and say, "Here! Mama!" As if he just found them.
2)
Bill: farts loudly Me: Did you just fart. Bill: No Bill. Kevin do it. (Kevin is our cat)

Oh yeah. It's very casual here. When I wear a graphic t-shirt it's usually something from Out Of Print or something with an English class-related joke on it, but I just ordered that shirt and I want to wear it everywhere.

I guess our kids are growing up!
I'm too lazy to find a link, but I guess until kids are quite a bit older (like... Maybe 5?) "Lying" is a combination of figuring out what is real versus make believe, and saying what they want to be true.
Best practice is to not set them up to lie - ask "why" questions instead of yes/no.
Blaming the cat for farts is A+ in my book, though. Bill wins!
We had W's autism eval this morning (needed based on his M-CHAT-R screen). He came back as no to low risk, thankfully. Now just another month until his speech eval. I feel like we've been waiting for that for forever.
So given the housing situation here H and I are considering taking our down payment (which is 10% down on a 2 bed condo in toronto, and not a very big/fancy condo) and moving to rural Nova Scotia and buying a house outright. The downside is that there aren't many jobs there (hence why houses are so cheap). But we would own a house without a mortgage. So that's attractive. We're probably not THAT serious but it's a fun fantasy.
YES. YES. DO IT, YES. You could always freelance online!
It's Friday!!!! Which means I can (hopefully) catch up on here!!! This week was super busy, but, I was awarded Employee of the Year for my building. It's my 4th year (5th if you count my internship) so I felt honored to be recognized!!!!! DS also learned how to tie his shoes and Charlotte learned how to throw epic tantrums.
Every Friday I play a song for my students as they walk in the class. Today I'm playing the new Lorde and it's putting me in such a good mood. I wish I could just play it on repeat today instead of teaching.
Fun fact, I've seen Lorde in a super small intimate concert when she was just starting out. She was great. And danced super weirdly.
Guys. I'm watching Pitch Perfect on VH1 and on a commercial, they just started talking about a "designer vagina" and "meat curtains." ON TV AT 6!!!!!!!!!! Wtf.
I had my first asthma attack in months tonight and it scared the crap out of me. Mostly because I haven't had one in so long that I got complacent and haven't been carrying around a rescue inhaler. And DH had to go digging through some boxes to find one. And now I'm all jittery. So up all night? tcck what channel can I find out more about meat curtains? Sounds like my kind of thing.
cornpop311 @traceyos I have a feeling the pearl-clutching is because the little girl is in a bikini.
Are we not supposed to put kids in bikinis? Em has one for this summer. I definitely had bikinis when I was that little girl's age..
Well it obviously sexualizes little girls, and there are pedophiles everywhere!!!11!!!
There is a strong patriarchal sentiment still about clothing, including swimwear. For instance, if someone assaulted a little girl at a pool/beach who was wearing a bikini, there would be people blaming the parents for letting her wear "sexy" clothes. It's in the same vein as a woman asking for it because she wore a miniskirt.
@traceyos who knows?? People are saying it's inappropriate. I tend to think they're people who are jealous of how amazing she looks after 2 kids.
I admire her fitness. I don't know if it's "jealousy" but I don't think I would wear that these days even if I had her figure. Personally birth has made me a lot less modest in some ways (like nursing or at the doctor's) and a lot more modest in others (like bikinis/shorts). A tiny bikini like that just feels off to me personally.
I think if anything it seems inappropriate because the context is weird - they were posed bikini photo shoots, not them hanging out at the beach or pool.
Bikinis on kids are not my style but it's not like it's unusual. Lots and lots and lots of people have them and they are still great kids with amazing parents!
I'm against them for Elena until she's old enough to put on her own sunscreen. Until then, rash guard it is.

People are dumb.
Can't modesty also be about sending the message that people have more to offer than their bodies vs. protecting/defending virtue?
I don't want to sexualize my daughter because I'm worried she's going to be assaulted, I don't want to sexualize her because I don't want her to think that her value lies in a particular sort of preening display. I want her to feel free to be sexy when she reaches an age where that's appropriate, but I don't want to condition her from an early age that she needs to fit a certain mold.
I would feel weird putting L in a bikini. If only because it doesn't really have a function - it would seem less weird to just have her in a diaper at that point. Plus sunburn.

Sure, of course. Being modest and teaching modesty aren't automatically a bad thing - but you're also not going to shame a woman (or child) for wearing a bikini, either. You're not trying to control what other women wear or put on their kids, you are wearing what you feel comfortable wearing and dressing your kid similarly.
I have bigger thoughts about teenagers, the power of sexuality, and society, but I'm too tired to figure out how to word it. I don't have a problem with modesty and am myself pretty modest in dress, but I celebrate others' freer spirits in this and hope my daughter finds her own way, when she's old enough to understand the ramifications of these things.
I don't love her only because their show is so bizarre. There's no drama and they are both so flat.
Having said that she looks amazing and dressed appropriately. And her daughters bathing suit is perfectly fine and people are being dumb. This is 100% a combination of her looking fantastic, being semi famous, and going through personal drama. A 6 year old in a 2 piece is so normal and common that I do not for one second believe it's about that.
I'm on team too lazy to dress my toddler in a bikini bc I dont want to have to keep lotioning her up. She has incredibly fair skin and that just sounds exhausting. Rash guard and bottoms all the way.
Also, FWIW, Christina looks damn amazing. I'm not a fan of hers, I think she's fake and showy, so really this is on point for her. But, if I lived in CA and was chilling by the pool with my daughter, I can totally see a photoshoot like this happening. Seems Cali normal. I would never do it, but I also don't think she's the brightest crayon in the box, and probably thought nothing of the shoot.
However, I'm also on team practical "mom" bathing suit wear. There's no way im chasing A around the beach in a skimpy bikini like that. I dislike tankini's on myself, but will absolutely be wearing one this summer and probably for summer's to come, merely for the convenience of boobs not flopping around factor.
