Who do you use? We've been avid TurboTax users but I'm not going to lie, this whole fraud thing is turning me off. We have pretty simple tax situations. I hate paying for state though. I know TT had a free state filing but I think it might have expired, I don't see it on their website anymore.

I use TaxSlayer. I have for probably 6+ years. I'm a CPA though and know what the forms should look like in the end, so it's easier to DIY with taxes. I don't think their software is the best, it was just one of the cheaper ones when we started using it and it hasn't been worth it to swtich.

Hmm interested in what people use! I've always used our family accountant out of habit and convenience (she was also in charge of my payroll as I worked for my dad for 4 years) but we are moving this summer and we have pretty simple tax needs that I don't think it is necessary to find a new CPA.
I've thought about TurboTax but other than that I have no clue what is out there.
I usually use Turbo Tax (and haven't even heard of any fraud thing... off to google!). I'm nervous about doing it myself this year because we bought a house, but maybe that's not as big a change as I am thinking it is. I'm just worried we'll miss something. Once I get all the forms, I may do it on Turbo Tax (without submitting) and then have an accountant friend look at it just in case.

I used H&R Block this year because of the Turbo Tax fiasco. It was $29 on Amazon for the Deluxe version and it handled us buying a house, having a kid, selling some stock and making use of an HSA and some other deductions just fine. It does charge more to file your state taxes though. In Colorado you can file your taxes online. It's not tax software, but the state tax return basically involved a plugging in the federal numbers where it tells you. It still calculates the math so I don't have to worry about an arithmetic error. The only thing I had to add to my state taxes that wasn't wrapped up in the federal numbers was the qualifying 529 plan. So, I don't use tax software to file my state taxes.
The H&R Block software imported previous years from TT just fine. I was pleased overall and it was cheaper than TT anyway.
I used H&R online when I was single, but DH has gotten ours done in their office since we got married. It's pretty quick and painless and they always seem to get the numbers to come out better than we estimated on our own.
Ugh. We just filed with TT and I wasn't aware of a fraud issue. I don't even want to Google right now and open a mindfuck can of worms. Ignorance is bliss, right?
We are using the H&R Block version. Its pretty comparable to TT.
I've always used HnR Block online Free version for federal. Then I go on my state's DOR site to webfile for free there. Typing my info twice is worth twenty bucks to me. Haha.

My husband did ours with H&R Block online. We bought and sold houses, got married, and handled rental property last year, along with all the normal tax stuff last year and it was still pretty easy to use. Totally worth the small cost to have peace of mind/security.

Thanks for the reminder! Our state also has free e-filing & I just found this out right before you posted. We've been living here for 7 years. Lol -_-
