Passover Prep and Plans

I don't remember how many Jews/married to Jews we have active right now, but does anyone want to talk about Passover plans? I find this is typically the hardest holiday to navigate from an interfaith perspective, so let's talk!

bonzo2012, I don't check this board as often as I should, so I'm only just seeing this now!

I am not super-observant about Passover. I don't consume any chametz but I do eat kitniyot. I don't clean out my kitchen or anything. MH and DS just eat whatever they please. Eventually I want my kids to observe with me, but that's a few years off; DD isn't eating solids yet, and DS is a picky 2 year old so I'm not about to remove any possible food groups from his diet for a week lol

How do you navigate this one?

dashook, this board's been really quiet lately! I'm glad you popped over!

In our house, H keeps kosher for Passover with me. He's starting to talk about wanting to convert, so he's actually really on board with most of the observance. We're Reform, so I'm not super observant about getting chametz out of the house -- I do a ton of cleaning if I can, and then I rearrange the shelves in the pantry so that all the Passover stuff is easy to reach, and the chametz is up higher.

Where we used to have a hard time was with going to the ILs for Easter during Passover. It got easier once I started getting more involved in the menu so that I could make sure there was food I could eat.

bonzo2012 that's so cool that your husband is converting! I know it can be a pretty involved process.

I'm so bad, I don't even buy Passover stuff. I just can't eat matzah lol; it makes me feel so gross. So I just do a lot of veggies and lean protein. Not too far off from what I normally eat, actually!

We also go to my ILs' for Easter. Fortunately my MIL is awesome at making food for me. This year we're going to H's aunt for dinner though. Thanks for reminding me that I should probably remind her about Pesach!

I don't know much yet about what the conversion process will be. I'm really trying to let H lead that whole process, since all these years I've told him it doesn't matter to me if he converts or not. But he's not the best at following through on starting new things, so that's a little annoying. Like, right now I know he needs to email the rabbi again, but I'm holding myself back from reminding him too much. We will see how this all goes!

Ha, as with all things marriage-related, there's that fine line between nagging and reminding 😂

I kinda want to go out for Italian, but H has a class on Tuesdays so I'm probably on my own for dinner. I might still make pasta at home!

dashook, what did you end up doing for your first non-Passover meal? I did end up making pasta. Yum!

I also bought way too much matzah meal before Passover because I always forget that most of my recipes want the cake meal not the coarse meal. I need to remember not to buy any more for at least a year!
