I might whip out the BLW cookbook I bought while I was pregnant. After plowing through purees like nobody's business she's now not interested in the slightest. She wants to pick it up and do it herself. I'm pathetically at a loss of what to feed her and a bit nervous about the gagging.
Obviously give BLW a shot if you want. But it isn't the only option. When DS got bored of purees we started finger foods with him--basically just whole foods that I chopped into very small pieces. Bonus is it's good for developing fine motor skills/pincer grip.

that's really what blw is all about. They have other suggested strategies for how to serve foods but it's really just the practice of self feeding from the start.

The gagging can be stressful at first, even the second time around, but both of my kiddos have really liked it. Our favorites are ripe bananas, sweet potatoes and peas. He looooooves peas. We also do applesauce which we give him the spoon to play with and he loves it, yeah he gets more all over him than in his mouth but he's figuring it all out.

I feel you danib. We have a similar problem, except with activities. By now Lillian had taken a swim class and was starting gymnastics. I just cart Lilah around to Lillian's activities. So much guilt.
Question for people who use frozen fruits and veggies. Is it ok to cook, puree, and then refreeze? Can I give her straight frozen fruit that I buy?
Sorry if these are silly questions. I never made Lillian purees. I just bought organic ones for her.
Don't refreeze it.
I used to buy frozen fruit, let it defrost and then puree it and mix it in yogurt or rice cereal. Frozen veg I used to defrost in the fridge over night and send to daycare the next day. That was when she was older though. I never pureed frozen veg.
That's what I thought. I read somewhere that as long as you cook it, it's ok to refreeze. But everything I've ever learned about cooking is that you should never refreeze anything.
I just was thinking about using frozen peas since I have very little interest in shelling fresh peas.
Also, as a child I used to eat frozen veggies straight out of the freezer. My mom thought it was hilarious.

So I only have one so I can't officially comment on the second child guilt thing. But all I can think about is how much love and adoration these littles have for their big sibs. Those pictures y'all share are always my favorite. I think the relationship and bond they're gaining is worth so much more than all this other stuff you're mentioning.

Oops.. I read it was ok as long as it was cooked right away and then refrozen (and not thawed then refrozen). He's already eaten most of the peas and green beans that I did this with.

You can cook, freeze, and use baby food as long as you reheat it to 165 degrees after thawing in the refrigerator to kill off any bacteria that may have multiplied between cooking and hitting a frozen state and back again.

The nutritional value can degrade every time you heat it up that high because along with killing bacteria you end up denaturing some protein too, but not enough to make that big of a difference.
It's the same as making an extra lasagna and freezing/reheating it for us big kids.

Right, but she was asking about using already frozen food, pureeing it, & refreezing it.
Yeah I didn't read that right. But, if you're heating it to the point of killing off bacteria each time I don't see the problem. I can most definitely be missing something though.
