H cut back to about 5 feedings a day by 1 year. We introduced coconut milk in a straw cup at meals and never mixed breastmilk in. We gave him a puree pouch and then offered the straw and he figured out he could get milk out the same way. He dropped 1 feeding a month until he was done breastfeeding around 18 months.
M still nurses 7-8 times a day. He gets a hard spout sippy at meals with pumped milk. When he gets up MOTN he gets a bottle, but we are offering less and less at each night feeding. He is still getting only breastmilk for now, but only actually nursing 4 times. We will start to mix whole milk into his sippy next week when my freezer stash gets low and I'm hoping to keep bf for 2 more months.
Just wanted to add...H started chewing on straws and eventually broke and swallowed a sharp piece of a straw. M chews on everything, so we will avoid straws with him until he is older.
Also, we drank coconut milk for a long time but it is so expensive we can get organic whole milk for less, so that is why we switched.
Is open cup what I think it is? That seems nuts to me! But maybe I should try it... need more info, experts!
So A is almost 13 months and we give her a sippy of 2% milk with each meal now, of which she barely drinks any. Maybe a few drops? I still don't think she likes the cold. I've really given the sippy cup industry a lot of money because I try so many. She has a straw sippy of water that she likes and drinks plenty of throughout the day, so I'm not worried about her hydration. She gets one last bottle before bed of 2oz formula and 3 oz milk. I'm only still using formula because I have a little left. I talked to my pediatrician and she said she doesn't bring up weaning off bottles until 15 months.
