I need a new vacuum. The one I have now is old and shitty. I need one that is good at picking up hair. It seems like no matter how much I vacuum there is always more hair in the carpet.
Do you like your vacuum? What kind do you have? How long have you had it?
I have two different dysons. One of them is newer and a lighter model, and it's terrible. I don't feel like it picks up much at all. A lady I know says she and her family swear by sharks.

We have two - a Kenmore and a Shark. I like both but I feel like the Kenmore one picks up a lot more. It might not be everyone's cup of tea though because it 1) has a bag (our Shark is bagless which is nice) and 2) is a canister vac which is sometimes a pain in my ass carrying up and down stairs but otherwise I love it. It was $300 but worth the money. We've had it for 6 years with no issues at all.
ETA: I feel like our Shark was amazing in the beginning but after a couple of years it doesn't do as well despite cleaning the filter parts well where with the Kenmore I've seen no decrease in suction or cleaning ability. Also we have a Black and Decker hand vacuum which is AMAZEBALLS. It is so nice to be able to pull that out for cleaning smaller messes quickly rather than drag out the big vacuum.

My awesome vacuum that we had to leave in IN when we moved was the Kenmore canister vacuum. I loved that thing. Blake hated it. He's not a fan of canisters, though.
I like them both for different reasons, the dyson is great for quick cleanup on my wood and tile floors, the shark is amazing on the carpet, especially with pet hair, it's just heavier and harder to maneuver

Also this. I feel like I'm getting a full on workout when I use the Shark lol.
I have a dyson D.C. 24. That's the label says anyway. It's just a regular run of the mill dyson but I like it. It's about 5.5 years old and the only issue we have is my hair tangling up things every couple months. My hair is super long so I think that would happen regardless of the brand. I can also attest that it never loses suction.
I also have a V6 trigger which is the dyson version of a dust buster which we purchased last year.
Both are pretty lightweight and I've been happy with them so far.
We have a shark, when we first got it I LOVED it. Like TheEleventhHour I do feel it has lost some of its suction. The next vacuum I buy will be a shark again. I think they are good value for the money, especially if you can get it on sale.
I have a Hoover Windtunnel Paws (I think that's the right name) and I really like it. It's designed for pet hair in particular, so has a few attachments that work really well for getting pet hair off upholstery and such. Plus extra filters that are easy to clean. I've had it since 2010, and it's still doing great!
We have a Shark, I think it's called the Navigator or something. I really like it, and it came with an attachment for cleaning hard surface floors. The one thing I dislike about it is that because it has such good suction, it can be a workout to vacuum carpet with longer thread. But we have 2 dogs, one of which sheds enough to make a whole new dog each week and it does great picking up pet hair. It even did an amazing job keeping up when I went through the losing-all-my-hair postpartum phase.

Ha. Now that you mention it I'm pretty sure it was that phase that killed our last vaccum.

I have a Kenmore that is 20 years old and works amazingly well. It's a solid standby. It was my first vacuum and I've never owned another (except a Roomba, but that's for fun mostly, not really for deep cleaning). I like bags - they're easy to clean up. It also has all the attachments for floors, crevices, stairs, furniture, etc that fit nicely inside of it so you always have them on hand. We're also a two cat+1 finger-feeding baby +1 postpartum shedding mama household so there are always big messes.
We have a central vacuum system in the house-it needs a new hose and/or head attachment-so I'm not overly crazy about it at the moment but with all the steps I don't want to lug around our vacuum I still have from before we moved in there which I still like.

We have a Riccar, but I'm not a fan, honestly. I feel like I'm taking it to the vacuum repair guy like every 6 months because it loses it's suction. We got it in 2011 so it's not even that old yet. However, my parents' Riccar is probably close to 15 years old and has held up great. I don't know why my vacuum hates me.
We have a Shark. We bought it about a year ago and it still does great. It is easy to clean out the parts, which is good so it doesn't smell like dog. Our dog sheds like crazy.
I've had this Hoover WindTunnel Pet Rewind for a few years now and it works great. It's bagless, lightweight, affordable, and the cord retracts with the press of a button.

My parents have a central vac (circa 2000). I used to hate having to go down into the basement to clear out the cannister. I find the hoses to be cumbersome and limiting.
