I want to get a couple new outdoor toys for this summer. We have a small yard, so big equipment is out. I'm getting some large storage ottoman/tables for the yard and would like toys that would fit in there or that can exist in the rain. I want to spend more time outside this summer but going outside is always a production, so I'm trying to keep more things on hand out there. And M always wants more of my attention when we're outside, which means if I want to relax we end up staying inside. So I would love more stuff that she can play with solo. Any suggestions?

Dump trucks and shovels provide hours of entertainment here. I've also seen lots of ideas for homemade play spaces (sensory stuff, race tracks, etc) on the imagination tree blog/facebook page

DS has his own little watering can that he uses to help water the garden. He seems to like helping. I might get him some more toy gardening tools this summer.

H is obsessed with his miniature shovel, rake, and hand rake/trowel/watering can, too. So good.

How does he help? M would LOVE to water plants, but then what? I feel like a lot of gardening is waiting that would be hard on a toddler. We don't have a sandbox for digging. Last year we had a tub of sand that M had nominal interest in until my mom left it out in the rain, it filled with water and started to mold.

He's good at helping prep beds before things are planted. Hah. This year I'm going to leave half a bed, maybe, unplanted for him so he can dig in it. And fence off the rest. He really likes digging in the bed.
Also, a huge favorite activity is burying dinosaurs (or whatever) and having him be an archaeologist.

R helps with the garden too. Loves it. He also has his own tools. He digs before seeds go in, weeds, waters, and helps transport picked vegetables.
When there is nothing to do he digs. I leave a corner or space with no plants for him. He digs and puts dirt in his dump truck, moves it around endlessly and digs some more.
Some friends of our's have one of those foldable slides and that is a big hit. I agree with just a place with dirt to dig in. My dog and children love one muddy corner next to the house. MIL got the kids a sandbox hoping they'd dig in that instead but they still prefer the spot in the corner. We have a bunch of things like tractors and dump trucks that the kids love to use to scoop and move the dirt around. Also for summer a sprinkler is really fun to play in.
