Sorry to be a thread whore. I picked Max up from school and he has a huge goose egg on his forehead (diameter of a quarter and sticking out 1/4-1/2 in)where he fell and hit his head on the floor. He's talking fine, no vomiting. I asked if he was dizzy and he said yes, but I'm wondering if he even knows what that means. Would you guys take him to check for skull fracture? That was my first instinct, but I don't want to overreact. I'm waiting for H to get home and see what he thinks.

O hits his head and had a goose egg in the same spot this weekend. I iced and kept an eye on him to see if he was acting funny. O's swelling went down in about a day with some ice, and his forehead looked normal just bruised. If you're worried about it, take him in, but I tend to think it's okay to ice and see if he is acting normal.

poor Max! if it makes you feel any better, H hit his head all the time as a little kid and he's (mostly) normal! O inherited the clumsy gene from him, so we have lots of head into corners of tables, falling on the ground. Foreheads are pretty hard luckily!
Did daycare call you when it happened? I don't know what most places protocol is, but when DS had a big one like that with a cut, they called me for the option to pick him up, come look at it, or decide to take him to the doctor. I had the director use her judgement and told her to call me if he was acting weird or there were any signs. He didn't and they called me to tell me he was fine. I picked him up and it looked about that size plus a cut and I just watched him.

No they didn't call me, his teacher didn't even see the goose egg. She said he was holding the other side which is what she looked at. I was annoyed, but his bangs are long so you can't see it without pushing his hair back so....

You have a right to be annoyed. She should have checked him a few times since it was his head.
