Lurking over from June 17 and couldn't find an answer with the search function so hopefully I am not repeating a frequent question!
I had excess lipase with my M15 baby. She would refuse if my milk was older than 24 hours fresh or frozen at all. I had to scald it everyday that she wouldn't use it the next. It was exhausting!
I am currently 32 weeks with the next baby. Should I expect to have the same issue again? I know some babies don't care about it so that can't be predicted but will the issue still be there? And I guess that I should test my milk as soon as I start pumping to find out sooner this time? I had to throw some away last time (there was also a power outage but it was the worst! )
High Lipase varies so just cause you had it with one baby doesn't mean you'll have it with another. It even can vary while nursing with the same baby. Since Lipase works to break down the fat in your milk to be more easily digested, then it makes sense that as the fat content can vary in your milk, then so the lipase would vary as well. We don't really understand except that if we weren't pumping we'd never even know lipase could be a problem
