I could use a sounding board, bc honestly I'm kind of just...confused as to what to even ask. We have a follow up with our developmental ped this afternoon, and i plan to discuss this with her, but I'm not exactly sure what type of support to even ask for.
My 4yo has epilepsy, mixed devlopmental delay, and SPD (sensory seeking). For the most part, his seizures are well controlled with keppra (and 100mg b6), though he did have his first breakthrough seizure last month, resulting in another med increase. Otherwise, hes progressing in skills and doing quite well, except for his impulsiveness and some increased irritability/aggression, which has kind of been par for the course since starting keppra june of last year.
Up until the last 3-4months, I'd say, we had a good handle on things, but at this point, we are having a difficult time with his behavior and impulse control (lack there of). Hes already getting pt, ot, and speech in preschool, and he gets ot and Hippotherapy outside of school (we are taking a break from pt due to scheduling issues). Last time we saw the developmental ped, she suggested a behavioral psychologist, but after calling at least a half dozen practices, they either werent accepting new patients, or didnt see patients his age. So i got fed up and put it on the back burner for a while. But the multiple daily meltdowns, opposition, and fights over just about anything are really wearing on me, MH, and my other son. The strange thing though, is that accoridng to his preschool teacher, while he does protest/test limits there, he doesn't show the degree of opposition that he does at home.
Im hesitant to switch meds, bc the keppra has worked well and has the best side effect profile, according to his neuro. But honestly, its been rough. I also have a NT 2yo and i feel like he gets the shaft a lot bc im so busy putting out the fires and refereeing bc of my 4yo.
So...all that being said. Anyone have any insight/words of advice? What supports should i be seeking here? What should i be asking for? I feel like i really need to do something, but im just not sure what, at this point.
