For those of you that formula feed or supplement with formula, do you have a go-to formula brand/type? E generally is fine with whatever, so H and I buy what's most economical and whatever we may have coupons for.
We've noticed, though, that with powder formulas (as opposed to pre made), they're especially foamy/bubbly at the top and even with Dr. Brown's bottles, E gets very gassy when having powdered formula.
Does this happen to other people too? Are we making it wrong? Is it abnormal to not have a go-to brand formula???
I was told by my pedi to pick a brand and stick with it. Enfamil made DS spit up a ton, so we used Similac for Supplementation. I would ask your pedi if they prefer you stick with one brand
I never used powder, so I can't answer that. Are you stirring or shaking? If you let the bottle sit, do the bubbles go away?
We use our store's generic brand enfamil rip off of gentlease. We also use Dr. Brown's bottles. I haven't noticed any extra gassiness despite having used a few different versions of the gentlease (Enfamil, Walgreens brand, Target, etc.). Regarding actually making the formula, I usually measure out the water and powder for a full 24hrs of feeding into a pitcher and mix and refrigerate. It seems to give the formula time to settle and come together more like a pre-made non powder formula. Also, it's a great time saver.
We EFF and have since day 1. I use target brand that is the enfamil knock off, or enfamil if I have a coupon.
We have a baby Brezza formula pro to make bottles. It's legit amazing and worth every penny. It makes the bottle for you. I'm obsessed.
I didn't have the Brezza with my first and she was also EFF and I tried to swirl the bottle vs shake to decrease bubbles. I also thought similac was more bubbly so we stick with enfamil and its knockoff versions.
We switched to ready made because of this same thing. It's harder to find though. We use the same brand and type. She projectile vomits everything else.

We have been EFF for a month now and the Gerber Soothe works best for R. Once I shake it and let it sit for a minute, the bubbles go away. I also use the Playtex bottles that are curved to prevent air from going on.
Like shellbell, I was told by my pedi as well to stick with one brand of formula since switching between brands could upset the tummy and make the baby gassy.
I think the foam forms when you shake too hard/long. With I make bottles not a lot of foam but when DH makes bottles lots more foam. Same bottles/formula so has to be how it's made. (My scientific analysis...hehehe.)
I use Similac Advance non gmo powder I stick to the same one, same reason as others, could upset him if not.
He was extremely gassy as well, and we used Dr.browns for a while to help I find the bubbles only disappeared if I refrigerated the bottle and let it sit for a couple hours.
Are you mixing without the green piece in? That helped us a bit.
We just became very adamant about burping, and would burp several times throughout the bottle and for quite a bit after he was done.
We had tried ready made but the non gmo was only in the small containers and it got so expensive so quickly. The stains were way worse with it too when he spit up.
I found the bubbles a bit less when we went back to the avent natural bottles
Also, last thing we noticed was he was gassier when switching lot numbers of formula. So at the time two lot numbers were on the shelves and we went back and forth depending on where we shopped When we opened the march 2018 expiry we had him getting way more upset. We stockpiled a December 2017 lot, and we plan to transition gradually when changing lot numbers
We could be crazy, but it really showed a huge difference when we figured that out....
But I understand wanting to find a solution, it was pretty hard to see him upset with the gas and what we think was a bit of reflux at times.
