Was our office the only one that doesn't want to see her now until 5? I was considering taking her in around her 4 year bday just for a basic check up, but not sure if it's necessary.
They told me 4. That's down from every 6 months that we have been doing.
DS had his check-up today. Everything was normal except they did a vision screening and he has to go to the eye doctor. He may have an astigmatism, which isn't surprising since DH and I both have an astigmatism. His iron was also low normal so they suggested a multivitamin with iron. He was surprisingly very well behaved.
DS had his check up on Friday. Height: 38 in Weight: I'm gonna go with 35lbs
The lady doing the check in stuff got 31lbs I said he was 36lbs last week when I brought him in for an ear check. She weighed him again and got the same thing. I said can we use a different scale because I don't think he lost 5lbs in 1 week & shouldn't we be concerned if he did? She said he probably had his shoes on last time (he didn't) he hasn't weighed 31lbs since September. I weighed him at home & he was 35.6lbs 🙄
Some how we were behind on shots so he got the 2nd part of the Hep A shot and was pretty mad. Have to take him to the lab for another lead test, not looking forward to that. They checked his hearing since he recently had a perforated ear drum. He passed and they said usually 3 year olds don't pass because they just don't follow instructions lol
He is right at about 40% for everything. He did the hearing test and vision test. I was surprised he followed directions so well. He was so proud that he knew his letters on the chart.
DS has his eye doctor appointment on Thursday. I'm hoping he doesn't need glasses yet because I don't see how he'd actually keep them on. And not break them. He loves the cheap sunglasses he has but he's constantly bending them, dropping them, etc.
He just had his appt and H took him. 38.5 inches and 37 lbs. he's like 70% and 90%. So pretty similar to his curve since 6 months. Vision was good. Only thing they asked if he could do that he can't was dress himself. I think that's a little ambition. Also asked if he could count to 3 and speak in 5 word sentences. Also asked if he uses where/ what/ when/ why questions. Doctor said she doesn't normally PT boys until 3. Her oldest was stubborn and usually a couple months past 3 they stop messing around and just do it 100%. I think that's all.
becole DD1 definitely can't dress herself. She can put on pants and underwear as long as it's positioned correctly and shirts she needs help adjusting all the holes into the right spots to put it on. Did they think he should be able to do it all independently?
becole, our pedi asked the same thing. He can't. She said as long as he's trying. DS tries to take his clothes off, but not so much put them on, except his jacket.

I'm not sure. She didn't say it was concerning that he couldn't, so I think it's just a check for motor skills to see where they are. He can take his clothes off. It's getting them on that's tough. And I probably don't give him time to try because we're always in a hurry. He dribbles a basketball and peddles a bike so I wasn't worried.

This was something they noted with my DS too. I think he just knows I will do it for him eventually since he is an only child. Oh I bought those Nike sandals you recommended and my DS will put them on himself at home! So thank you becole!! He is still pretending he can't put on his tennis shoes though even though he does it at school.

Yeah I think part of the problem is just that we do things for them so they don't do it themselves. It's painful to watch them try- and tedious... but I will have to make a little time for it now. Maybe practice putting on his pjs before bed since we have more time. And you're welcome- love those sandals- he asks to wear them over tennis shoes every time.
We went today. 39" and 34.5 lbs. Tested her hearing and vision even though the school district did it 2 weeks ago. Everything was good including her iron levels.
Am I the only one who had to catch a urine sample? Good times trying to hold her up and get the cup in the right place.

This sounds like a nightmare. What was the urine test for?

Check for sugar, proteins, etc. He did the 4 year old checkup since we may do preschool or Head Start in the fall if she doesn't need to continue speech therapy with the school district. They took her blood pressure too.

We went a few weeks ago H: 36 in W: 30 lbs
No shots but did do a CBC. I really don't know why. The nurse was awesome and DS didn't flinch.
He went to the dentist yesterday for a check up. He did so good. My oldest freaks out at the dentist, so i was pleasantly surprised the DS2 did so well.

Had ours today. He was 35 lbs and 38 in. Don't remember percentiles. They tested him to see if he is a carrier for strep but we won't know for a couple days.
We had our 3 year visit today. I was nervous because (FFFC?) this was the first visit H wasn't there for. I just get anxious about anything medical and the doctor's office is like 2 minutes from H's office so he always comes. My kid thankfully does not take after me, and loves going to the doctor for some reason.
They called his name and he marched right back and didn't even look to see that I was following him. They used the "big kid" scale for the first time. The nurse asked him to take his shoes off for it and I was in shock at how he just followed her directions. Got weighed and measured and took his blood pressure and I just stood there like an innocent bystander until he needed some help putting his shoes back on. The doctor did an exam and asked some questions about eating and sleeping and all in all it was an easy visit.
He's 34 lbs and 38 in. Coming down on the growth curve a little, so he's not in the 90 percentiles anymore, but that's to be expected. Genetically speaking, we make big babies in my family, but not big people.
No immunizations but they did check her eyes and take her blood pressure. The pediatrician told her that she needed to look at her body including her private part and she said "MY vagina" - I was so proud and happy she's remembering all of our conversations.
I think DD may have some sort of sensory issue - I forgot to mention it at her appointment, but I did call back and speak to the pediatrician about it. I just wanted to mention it so she could put it in her records in case we have issues down the road. My SIL has her MSW and does occupational therapy with kids - she noted that based on our conversations and her observations that she may fall on the spectrum in terms of sensory disorders. She hates to swing, doesn't like her hands messy - as a baby refused to touch her birthday cake, it took her months to even touch paint for finger painting and she now will dip her hand in after coaxing from her teachers at school. Just something to be mindful of and keep an eye on.
jcrewgirl if she does in fact have sensory issues, that could also contribute to some of the behavior you were/are seeing. Depending on the kid, if they are getting too much or too little sensory input it can really impact their behavior. I'm certainly not an expert in this or qualified in any way to diagnose anything but that's just from experience with students in the past.

Just did the 3yr visit today. No ear or eye check, they will do that at 4yo. Stats: 28lbs (30%) 39in (80%)
I mentioned that she lost a pound in the last couple of weeks, and her Dr said she probably, just had a growth spurt. Her height is shooting up, so we think she os going to be tall like Dh. Dr checked out her ears and throat and said both are clear, so hopefully,we are done with all the sickness till fall.
Dd2 got her ears looked at as well, and those are clear.
We had our 3 year visit today. They took her blood pressure and did a quick eye exam. No shots. 28 pounds 39 or 38 inches there was some confusion because whatever the got her at would have made her in 90% for height and she is never that tall. So we are thinking it was a miss reading. Only other notable item is she can't stop drinking whole milk because she is skinny. Oh and we may have to put her on an everyday asthma med. we have to see if her asthma is picking up or not (everyday using the nebulizer)
I just found out that our health insurance won't cover DS's eye exam at his pedi because it's not "proven technology." I guess you can fight it but it's $48 so not worth the paperwork.
lrmrtn yea the eye exam was a joke so I can see why insurance thinks it's a crock. Although I will be unhappy if they don't cover it because I would have just declined the test.
We had ours yesterday. Nothing really of note except my little guy had a growth spurt in the past 6 months. He is now 30.5 lbs and 37 in which puts him in the ~40th percentile for both. In the past he has always been around the 20th.
microworm, the eye exam came out positive for DS and after a visit the ophthalmologist, it turns out DS is slightly nearsighted and has a slight astigmatism in both eyes. Since DH and I have such bad eyes, and have from a really young age, I was glad they offer it. My eye issues weren't diagnosed until after age 4 when I failed a simple eye chart and by then it was too late to do much to improve my lazy eye. I'm sure I could file an appeal but since it's only $48, it's not worth my time. I just wish that the pedi would have told us beforehand that insurance may not cover it and given us the option to decline. They made it seem like it was standard.

Dd had hers yesterday. 37.5 in 31.4 lbs Around 50th %ile for both.
I hadn't really prepared for it (even by catching up on this thread - it's so strange that there is such a variety in what tests get done) as had forgotten when it was until got the reminder call 2 days before and then was crazy busy. Though the things I wonder about but forgot to ask (iron and lead) would require a blood test which anyway would be a trip to the lab so I guess maybe I will call after school gets over and ask.
In thinking about it after, I also realized that in all the screening questions/parent education discussion there was no mention of carseats this time which is too bad because so many people around here are clueless about things like recommendations for RF past age 1 even, let alone for as long as possible, and then the need for a booster, etc. Also no questions about if we've had well water tested recently (on my to do list though keep not getting to it) despite lots of talk in news and legislature recently about how common too high arsenic levels are (and efforts to promote testing and maybe subsidize mitigation). Hmm.
So far dd seems unmoved by the fact that "the doctor said you need to poop on the potty now" (as opposed to diapers) although she was very aware of and interested in other things she said. Maybe because she did not say those exact words - we are twisting the conversation about how to get her to use toilet for poop. Darn literal kid. 💩
DD1: attempted vision and hearing test, but she didn't cooperate. Weight: 33 lb 8 oz 75th Height 36.5 in 34th
Pedi made a comment about her BMI. She's 91%. I'm a little irritated by that, since she's not overweight at all. She did really well overall.
DD2: Poor thing got three shots and then had her blood drawn. Weight: 20 lbs 12.3 44th Height 28.9 in 40th Head: 45.4 cm 59th
Pedi thinks we should switch her to soy milk because more calories. She's been drinking almond. I was a little worried to try soy because soy is one of those that goes along with milk and egg allergies.

Ds1 is short. Shorter than everyone else's kids. He is a normal weight, but I was told he was stocky. I love his doctor, but it made me mad to hear that. You've all seen his photos - he is a normal weight. At least ds1 isn't affected by any of this.
