lawandorder, I bring my girls something from every trip. Now that I travel so much, the something is usually edible or something they need anyway. It's so extra, but my older girls loooove it.

Maybe a new low- Dh and I just ate at bob Evans for date night. I can't eat much and didn't want to be lusting after food I can't eat somewhere awesome. The pancakes were delicious and we lowered the average age by 20 years.
Fun fact: my grandma grew up down the road from the Evans' and she and Bob were friends and once went on a date.

Fun fact 2: that's where H and I went for our first date! I'm such a picky eater that when he asked where I wanted to go I got nervous and said the first thing I could think of. And I got pancakes too!

I pulled fish from the freezer but it's frozen still so I can't separate it to cook. My poor children were fed hot dogs, boiled carrots, garlic bread, and cheese.... at least that's a pretty balanced meal? I might convince H we should order from the bar, I have no desire to cook anything for us. Adulting is the worst.
Good news is the boys were outside 85% of their awake time today so they're exhausted. I on the other hand feel energized from the fresh air but not cooking energy. Yay early bedtime!
Sooo much rain. I feel bad, but we bailed on the birthday party at the park this morning. We got loaded in the car and the sky opened up so we just went to Costco instead.
My big accomplishment today was finally figuring out what song "Yeah Yo" means. Old McDonald...EIEIO.
lawandorder how long will you be gone? My mom used to travel a lot for work and would do things to break up the trip. She'd leave a sheet of paper with a list:
Monday: mommy calls during dinner Tuesday: open surprise from mommy during lunch Tuesday night: pizza night with nanny! Wednesday: mommy calls in the morning, open note from mommy at bedtime Thursday: mommy comes home!!!
And so on... it's probably easier now with FaceTime etc. but breaking up the time into a schedule really eased my anxiety, and I was a very anxious child!
Your mom was on top of it! I feel like I have to keep expectations low so it's not too much one-up work when I have to travel in the future
I'll be FaceTiming them every night and I've made promises of airport gift shop gifts. It will be hard to call at different times with my conference schedule and the 3 hour time difference.
He'll really be fine once I'm gone. H has the week off and he may spend some time with grandparents in addition to school. He'll be busy.
I'm gone Sunday back Thursday
If he'll be happy once you're gone this might be over the top then. I mostly had to stay with our nanny when my mom traveled instead of my dad and stepmom so I really missed her during her trips. (That odd dynamic is a story for another day!) FTR, I am very pro small gift. Lots of bang for your buck and I still have some of trinkets my mom brought me from her trips to more exotic places like Tunisia, and Minnesota
I have a weird lump in my throat, swollen tonsil I suppose. It's only on the right. Hurts with every swallow. I'm tired. Otherwise I feel fine. I'd love to just lay in the bed and rest.
So DS1 and the birthday girl figured out how to turn on the water at the splash pad today, in the cold. They had a blast though and people we had never met were saying "oh that's Hudson" and saying how the birthday girl calls him her boyfriend. They're super cute so I don't mind.
I did so much catching up for school today. If I have a productive day like this for the next week or two, I should be in good shape to graduate. It is also so hard to do anything with the girls (especially Hailey). She wants to sit on my lap while I'm at the computer (we watch you tube videos of baby animals usually).
Tomorrow we are all off together (I'm pretty sure the only day in the next two weeks). This semester needs to end!

@ceci8876 Keep an eye on it. I get tonsillitis quite frequently and need them removed. But I ended up in the ER from an infected tonsil. It got so bad that I could threats or swallow my own spit and became dehydrated. I was in so much pain. They had to drain it. It was the most disgusting thing I've seen. Also, this was AFTER a doc gave me antibiotics AND a a steroid shot. Feel better!!
Today was my nephew's 1st birthday party. At my niece's 1st birthday, my SIL made this tragic gluten-free, sugar-free, nut-free, flavor-free, fun-free "cake" that was so terrible and sad that even MH, who will eat literally anything, spit it out. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that BIL posted a pic of boxes and boxes donuts covered in various sugary cereals on fb this morning.
This party was a cavalcade of hipster baby names. And moms in oversized tanks with lacy bralettes showing underneath. 🤔
DS2 woke up crying at 5:45 which woke DS1 and DH is out of town. Yay. DS2 is running a slightly warmer temp (up to 100.9 vs 100.0) but he's actually eating right now. I think there will be a mandatory nap later today.
There's a Just Between Friends sale nearby starting today. I've never been to one, but we could use a few things. Probably try to hit that up during naptime. I also want to clean out my car. And more laundry.
