I know we talked about this but I can't find it. We need a second, but I don't want another Britax marathon. Partially for cost and partially for size, weight, ease of adjustment etc. I think that will be a great seat when it's forward facing but not a huge fan rear facing. Maybe they are all like this though? In any case still would like something a little cheaper for our second.
I'm not a good example then. I just bought my 4th Diono radian r100 and I'm looking at an immi go for our 5th seat. I do have a graco contender 65 and I LOVE it. It adjusts super easy, but I'm not in love with the installation I get even though it's easy to adjust between all my kids (huge plus).

I have all Britax. I think the convertibles that both RF and FF are all big and bulky. Check this out though. I think some of the Graco models are less expensive and might fit your other criteria.
I have a graco 4ever FF for my DD and RF for DS in my Outback. I don't find it any more annoying RF than FF. I know you said you don't want to spend $$$ but you can use this one for the next 10yrs

Do these kids stay in car seats for 10yrs?!? Yeezus. The things I didn't know.

Most use them for more than one kid. But DS was in a convertible in my car until 5 1/2 and now he is in a high back booster. But he is little. Still under 40 lbs. it all depends on your kids height and weight as to when they can move into a booster, etc. but yes, it's much more complicated these days.

The minimum age here to go without at least a booster is 9. Also something like 4'9 and 80 lbs or something like that. Whichever comes last, height/weight or age. It's not enforced. I see lots of kids S's age riding around without car seats. Our laws are a little behind the current recommendations. When all is said and done, S's car seat will be a little more than 7 years old by the time he outgrows it. But it's not an actual convertible, it only FFs and goes from 5 point harness, to high back booster to booster. He had a convertible, but it needed to be replaced (twice 😤).

We have a Chicco Nextfit. I got the Zip Air version because I'm a sucker. He still gets pretty hot and sweaty in it so I don't think the added ventilation really does anything for him.
I just really, really wanted a cover that would come off easily. Taking his infant seat apart to clean it after a blowout was not something I wanted to repeat anytime soon. It wasn't so much the taking it apart that was hard, but the putting it back together.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier! It converts to a high back booster then a regular booster when needed.
