I went in yesterday afternoon for my 39w app with an NST, expecting another membrane strip and to set an induction date for the end of the week. Baby failed his NST despite attempts to wake him with cold water, juice, and shaking the belly. The MW on duty told me it's time to evict and called to set it up for that evening.
We checked in around 6:15pm after I went home, showered, and saw DS1. One of the MWs showed up around 8pm (she was at another delivery 40 minutes away). She checks, I'm about 3cm and 60-70%. We come up with a plan to do low dose pitocin overnight with a sleep aid.
This morning around 7am, the head MW calls to check on me and tells the nurses to up the pitocin every 30 minutes until I'm feeling them. By the time she shows at 9:45, pitocin is at a 14 and I'm still not feeling anything but discomfort. The MW checks, no cervical changes. She breaks my water at 9:50am. She placed the order for the epidural to have it on standby for if I want it.
I call for the epi at around 11:30, after the pit is at an 18 for a while and the birthing ball is no longer helping. While we wait, they turn off the pitocin and I'm still having contractions less than 2 minutes apart. (surprise! Breaking my water threw me into labor on my own). Anesthesiologist shows up shortly before 12:30 and the epi is placed. The pitocin had been off for about 30 minutes at this point.
The nurse checks me at 12:45, I'm at an 8, almost 9cm. They place the catheter and tell me to call when I feel the need to push. I warned them that I went from 8cm to baby in an hour with DS1 so they call the MW to tell her to head over (she was at the office a couple blocks away).
5 minutes later, I call because I keep feeling like my bladder is full despite the catheter and really felt like I had to poop. MW walks in and checks- baby's head was blocking the catheter, and I jumped to 10 cm. She gets the catheter to work and tells me I can push whenever I want to have this baby. By this point, the epidural had taken most of the pain of the contractions except for the pain in my cervix.
2 pushes, less than 5 minutes, and this kid was out. The MW announced his arrival by telling me to reach down and lift him to my chest myself.
Holy hell, I felt everything with him coming out. The ring of fire is no fucking joke. I didn't feel any of that with DS1 so this was a whole new experience. Total labor time was about 3 hours, only 2 of them with painful contractions.
*poof*
