Too soon?
I'm thinking of a Moana themed luau. To be fair, it's just an excuse to get our friends together.
I'm planning to host at my moms so I don't have to do as much prep:) she loves the idea. She needs to be needed and entertaining is her love language. I think it will be a lot of fun.
Not really planning for baby yet since big girl's birthday is in a couple weeks. For DD1's first birthday, we had a cake and a sort of "open party" at my SO's shop. Mostly it was like any other day, we just fed people cake and a few of our friends brought her gifts, which I hadn't been expecting! It was calm and casual, and totally ok.
And she wouldn't get messy with her cake. She made scrunchy faces when we artificially smeared some frosting around her mouth. Super adorable. Somehow, I can see DD2 diving in with gusto... except she doesn't seem to care for sweeter foods. Who knows!
I have been thinking about it too! Don't really have a theme. Just kinda colours or rainbows, rainbow colours maybe. I'll see what napkins i buy and go from there! Lol i did buy a cookie mix for rainbow cookies and i plan on rainbow mixed icing for the cupcakes. People don't really do themes here like in the States or Canada. But we will have a couple parties one on their birthday here at home then one the next time we go to the ILs since all mh family is there.

I think we may have a little party, maybe with some friends from daycare, and like our neighbors. Probably not a huge big thing! coffeequeen14 I still haven't seen Moana!!
I love you to party plan, but resisting the urge to seriously start since DS is only just 8 months old. I already know the weekend it'll be and will be at our house with basically the same party list from DD first party.
Ah I can't believe we're already talking about this! We are definitely having a party. We are hopefully moving in July so this will be a good opportunity to see family and show everyone our new place. I haven't figured out a theme yet but I definitely want one. Maybe just summer - watermelons, suns, beach balls, etc. The only thing I know for sure is that they will each have their own cupcake. :-)
We normally host a few summer pool parties so I think we will do that for DD's birthday. It will be my friends from work coming and their children. I don't have family here (and don't want to host them shhhh).
I just booked DD's 5th birthday party at an animal shelter for the end of June. Since it's out of the house and the entertainment supplied, all I have to do is bring food, buy favors (a choice of either a small stuffed cat or dog) and pay for it.
During the time between DD's party and the time we go to Greece I will plan DS's party. Although we have a great yard and pool it will be too hot in late August to plan anything outside. Although I want to keep it simple, it will end up with at least 30! people.
coffeequeen14, what are you doing for a Moana-themed party?

blueinred I haven't gone too far beyond the sound track and heart of tafiti shaped cookies as favors. They have a pool so it will be a swimming party.
my boys LOVE that movie. I need to think of what to serve food wise that is Moana themed but not cultural appropriation. probably chicken labeled as "Boat Snack" which is one of the kids favorite lines.
annbuhdan it's a great movie. You should watch it!!!!
coffeequeen14, truthfully hosting a kid's birthday party makes me really anxious and I'll gladly pay within reason to have someone else take care of the details. In researching party venues that would be appropriate for both boys and girls-no princess or beauty parlor parties-I came across the animal welfare league. DD loves animals and loves the idea. If she's still interested in a few years, I love the idea of a future vet party. aawl.org/birthday-parties

He'll be 10 months next week so I have been thinking about this. Do not want a million people but my brother's family, and about 4 close friends with their kids. Probably at my in-laws backyard even though we rarely see them and don't like them... they have a pool. It will just be better to keep my nieces and nephews entertained with a pool rather than having them ransack my house. Likely no theme just balloons and stuff that says 1.
Originally, I wasn't going to have a party because we are planning to go to Disneyland to celebrate a few things: my birthday, R's belated birthday, his heart anniversary, and M's early birthday.
Then my boss made me feel like someday R will be sad if there are no photos of him having a first birthday party.
So now I'm thinking of either doing a little birthday thing at his daycare or trying to have a party with some people. The issue is that the house we are renting is not a good fit for a party and I don't think we will have bought a home yet (third offer to be outbid almost $100k over).
Should I have a party, it will be lion themed because he is my lion heart. He actually has worn a lion outfit for every month birthday, except for the first 3 months.

I'd love to have a small gathering for her but we shall see. I have always loved Alice in Wonderland so I like the idea of a"Onederland" party. Cheesy. But fun.

That's an adorable theme idea! And so much fun stuff you can do with it! I may have to steal that. :-)

I've started planning DS's party. We decided on a Dr. Seuss theme because I've always loved tge books. A friend mentioned Where the Wild Things Are with a Wild One theme. I was bummed I didnt hear about that one sooner, but I'm excited nonetheless.
Since DS's birthday is the end of August, we decided to have his party over Labor Day weekend since DH's cousins can attend then. I am certainly not a Pinterest party giver, but I decided on a fish theme. I will order fish-shaped invitations, banners and other party items. The older kids can go 'fishing' in the baby pool and decorate beach balls. Favors are little fish squirters, a stuffed fish and a fish-themed book.
