Finally getting around to writing up this birth story and it got a little long!
I went on bed rest due to high blood pressure on April 21st. Baby was doing fine so we were meeting with my OB twice a week. We were going to talk about inducing at my appt on May 5th. Then, On may 4th right before dinner I got really dizzy. I thought I was just hungry but my BP got really high after dinner. We headed to L&D, and found out I was 1cm and 0%, which wasn't surprising since I was 37 weeks.
My dr decided that I needed to be induced and I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and put on magnesium. Cervadil was inserted at about 11:30 pm and contractions started up a little after midnight. I didn't sleep at all since I was having back labor, but DH got to sleep a few hours until I woke him up at 5am to rub my back. The nurse checked me at 6am and I was dialated to a 2 and 60%, so we kept the cervadil in until 9am.
The on call dr came by and said pitocin would start at noon. I made it 30 min on pitocin before I got an epidural. Back labor is terrible! My dad showed up and thought it was fun to watch the contractions on the monitor and tell me when I was having one... luckily he went to work and left quickly. Epidural started to not work well in my back around 4 pm, around this time I was 6cm, so I got 1 dose of something stronger and got to take a 2 hr nap, which was great! My stepmom really wanted to be in the room while pushIng and I said no and they could wait in the waiting area. They didn't listen and all of a sudden my dad and stepmom are in my room... thank goodness my nurse kicked them out so She could check me again. the nurse checked and baby's head was at a +2 and I was ready to push.
i couldn't feel my contractions so the dr told me when to push and baby was born about 20 min later. I had him out in about 5 contractions. Baby had the cord around his neck twice so NICU came to check him out, but he was doing good by the time they got there. While I was worrying about my baby, the dr was mashing on my belly really hard, what I didn't realize was the I hemorrhaged and lost 4x the normal amount of blood. I was given a shot of something and everything was fine.
Then I find out from my nurse that my dad was causing problems at the nurses startion because they won't tell him anything. I was really upset about that, because I told him that I'd let him know when he could back and meet the baby. DH ended up going out and talking to my family and his BFF in the waiting room to give them an update at about 20 min after birth. I made them wait a full hour to come back to my room, I refused to compromise on that skin to skin time.
