Happy Mother's Day! It's kind of weird being a mom and not yet a mom at the same time today. I saw my mom last weekend and we're not going to MIL's today so it's just a pretty regular day around here. DH and I did go out to breakfast though and I was telling him how next year he gets to take care of LO while I sleep and relax! lol
I definitely still feel more like an incubator than a mom. But I'm currently prepping cloth diapers, so I guess the mom chores have already started?
H and the other residents are at a conference, so one of the other wives and I are going out to dinner. We're both pregnant so it will be fun to chat about what's coming soon for both of us. Plus from the menu it looks like this place has sparkling red wine (spumante) and I don't care who judges me, I will be having a glass. Love that stuff.

eucalyptus yes I try to get out of the hospital ASAP.
You don't have to answer this nosy question if you don't want to - but what was the reason for your long hospital stay? Since it sounds like you were able to get away without a c section?
Congrats on that by the way - it is rare in my experience that someone can get induced that early as a FTM and avoid a c section!

Short story is that they were monitoring us both very closely for several days to make sure that major problems did not develop.
Long story is this: I was induced early for high blood pressure (I think it was likely extra high because of some situational things going on in my life at the time) and they thought I was going to develop preeclampsia.
They started magnesium and wanted to start pitocin right away but I asked them to do cervadil for 12 hours first. They started pitocin the next morning and contractions got stronger throughout the day and I made some progress to 2 cm, 80% effaced, in front. The doctor asked if I wanted to break my water because it could really speed things up. I asked to turn off pitocin for a few hours so I could eat and rest and they turned it on again while I was sleeping.
When I woke up I started having more and more contractions but was at pretty much the same progress as the night before and I decided it was now or never so I said to break my water. Things went really fast and intense and within three hours I was ready to push. I did not want pain meds but the nurse wanted me to because she said that it was going to be a really long and painful time still. Theyn't want to check me yet because my water was broken, but I finally convinced them to and they said I was complete. I pushed for two hours and he was born.
Because they used the magnesium to try to reduce my blood pressure I had to be on it (and the associated bed rest) for 24 hours after delivery. I didn't move to a post partum room until a little more than two days after giving birth. They monitored us both very closely the entire time we were there but he never left the room.so they weren't concerned at that level.
Sorry that was long-winded. Does it answer your question?

Thanks for some of that info! Im most scared of a long hospital stay since Im being induced for similar reasons. DD did not handle it well when I was there for 2 nights just for monitoring. I will be there for at least 3 nights this time, if everything goes great, but possibly even longer.

They definitely would have made it go faster if I had wanted. I asked for all of the slow downs to give me the best chance of avoiding a C-section possible. I was there for 5 days total.
