I'll be getting it (again) in the next couple of weeks, and we insisted that family members get that and the flu vaccine before DD1 was born. So everyone else should be covered since she's only 2. I think my OB said 5 years for everyone but me but I must be wrong since it sounds like you guys are saying 10? I actually just went to Walgreens today to see how much the vaccine is without insurance, because our au pair needs to get it. $128! Expensive but worth it.
Late to the game, but we requested all visitors in first two months to be up to date on Tdap. I was told 10 years for visitors. Mother gets a booster each pregnancy as already mentioned to extend immunity to baby. It's typical for them to check your MMR titers from your initial blood draw, but they don't give that booster during pregnancy.

For those still packing their hospital bags, be sure to add morning snacks to your list. It's cruel that they start coming in at 6am to check vitals and all that but don't bring breakfast until 9am!! Shoulda brought some pop tarts or something.
Is this where I confess I never made any family members get the vaccine/booster when I was pregnant with C. With C I wanted out of the house for a bit when he was super little (roughly 2-2 1/2 weeks) and brought him to the daycare I was working at. I didn't bring him in all the rooms (we mostly stayed in the office), and it was late afternoon almost pickup time when we went in. I don't plan on making anyone get vaccines this time around either.

I picked up a box of granola bars because of my experience last time.
sabrinaml, I can't see why you wouldn't have your family members take a cheap/easy step to prevent an illness that could kill an infant?
I learned the hard way that any fever in an infant under a month means a night in the hospital getting pumped full of antibiotics and a spinal tap. Listening to DS get a spinal tap was terrible. And thinking that maybe there was something I could have done to prevent it was maybe worse. I can't imagine how I'd feel if my infant got whooping cough and I hadn't done something simple to prevent it.

Didn't even think of that but I do have mini chocolate donuts and orange juice on my hospital bag list hahaha
Sorry you weren't left hungry. I don't know about you but I get hangry so I would not be fun to be around hmph.

We never did either. We just made people wash their hands and not be sick, sometimes they had to change shirts. 😬 Even though, as previously mentioned, whooping cough is a huge irrational fear of mine.

We didn't make anyone get vaccines either. My H and I got it, and my mom actually had it done on her own accord.
I have no judgment on people's preferences on requiring people to get the vaccine. I just didn't feel comfortable demanding/dictating other people's medical decisions. My POV was I could make decisions about the level of interactions people had with my child I was comfortable with and just did so on a case by case basis. Luckily, that worked for me with DD. We will do the same with DS.
I agree with lulu783, I didn't feel comfortable demanding/dictating other people's medical decisions. If my in-laws wanted/want to do it in their own that's fine (same goes for my mom) but who am I to tell them they have to. It also wasn't anything stressed by our pediatrician or my OB.
We didn't. We did a hospital birth with midwives. I actually wound up being induced a week early so a home birth wasn't possible.
Good luck with your home birth! How exciting! I've had 4, but prices went up and I can't afford it this time, sads. (I have really good insurance for a hosp birth apparently and there are no CNMs in my area)
That's amazing that you have already had 4 home births! Any advice? My insurance will mostly cover mine, but we have to get my CNM pre-authorized since she is out of network and there are none who do home births that are in-network.
lotsoflotts thanks, my sister just suggested that too. i was trying to make it easy for our au pair - walgreens is down the street and she's still pretty uncomfortable driving here. maybe i'll give her the $130 and tell her she can either do it at walgreens or at county health clinic and keep the rest of the money.
We made all the grandparents get the TDap booster before we had our first. I didn't care that I pissed some of them off. Shortly before DD was born, there was a whooping cough outbreak in the county just north of us (the county line is like 6 miles from where we live) and I wasn't taking any chances. DH's parents live a few hours away, so they didn't realize how close it was to us, but whatever. No way I was going to let my kid get sick of it was preventable. We didn't make BIL get one (we barely see him), and my sister and her family were already up to date since her youngest is only about 6 months older than DD.
ETA: I guess I didn't force them to get vaccinated; I just told them they couldn't really see the baby more than once if they didn't do it.
I don't have any specific guesses, but I think baby will be early and big. I just hope he doesn't come on DS's birthday 6/19
I'm guessing early for me as well and praying she doesn't share a birthday with her big brother (5/31). DH and his sister share a birthday (2 years apart) and I don't want that for my kids. I've never heard either one say anything bad about it, but I'd rather the kids each have their own day.

redrocksabrinaml that was my worry too! And when I mention to people my due date I often hear "wow that's so close to DS's bday! That would be funny". Thanks for adding to my paranoia, right? But DS's bday was today so I made it! FX for you guys too. I share a bday with my mom and it was always pretty cool. But siblings are tricky. Sending some luck your way!

How cool (re you and your mom! I share a birthday with my oldest and love it! But siblings, cousins, and family friends kids are a different ball park imo. We have a lot of June birthdays coming up so I'm nervous about this kid having to share his day.

I find that being relaxed about "when will baby come??" helps and then once labor does start (3 of mine started in the middle of the night) it's best to stay quiet and in the dark. Afterwards, the MWs are really good at cleaning everything, so its really nice to be in your own space and just focus on your baby. can't wait to hear your birth story!!
