At my shower I was given two Alex + Ani bangles, one with my first initial and one with Feb birth stone. I am due 2/25 so there's a chance LO will come in March, not to mention I would be afraid of scratching the crap out of LO if I was wearing them. It was just kind of weird to get something for me and not LO. I tried to take them back to where they were both allegedly from and apparently only one was from there so I am stuck with one of them. I used the $$ from the one I could return to help complete the registry at buy buy baby
Strangest: a can of spray paint. But I love it given who it is from. She's delightfully odd. I didn't quite follow the reasoning on the gift, but I don't care. We'll find a use for it I'm sure.
Worst: super gendered girls clothes from family members who know better. (I'm really not into that)
Hand me down binkies and clothes that were gross. Uhm, no.
Good golly. I can remember DD's sperm donors mother gave us a bunch of used crap that had stains and buttons missing & stuff. It was unreal. And she has money, lots of it. I'm certain she did it cause she hated/hates me.

The weirdest gifts given to me were intentionally weird which makes them kind of awesome...Wee-wee tee-pees to cover up the baby's penis during changes and "Shitten mittens" - wipes that are like gloves.
I have gotten some stained/nasty clothing but I just planning tossing or donating depending on how bad it is!

I just got an Easter hat and booties. We are Jewish and this person is well aware of it.
I'm Jewish, DF is Catholic. His family bought both the kids books that say "prayers to read your baby" and rosaries. So I feel you in that department.
I also got a book with prayers for mothers. I'm a stubborn atheist so I don't really know what that was about...
Also got a box full of baby clothes from the 70's. But the giver was like "keep anything you like and toss the rest" so I just had a good laugh about all the amazing colors/patterns and super-weird materials.
Nothing too weird. Just that people are still giving me newborn clothes. First of all, I had a baby two years ago so I'm still set with newborn clothes. But also, this guy is already 10 pounds! He is not wearing newborn.
Nothing really bad this time, but DS was born at the end of January and we got a snow suit sized 6 months. Um, even if he grew really fast there was no way it would fit while it was cold enough to be useful.
Nothing too strange, but someone who really wanted us to have a son bought us boy specific clothing. It was more the presumed thought behind it that weirded me out (Almost as though dressing her in clothes from the boys department would make her into the boy they wanted?)

That's hysterical. When I was pregnant with DS, my fiancés family went out and bought girl clothes because they desperately wanted a grand daughter. I can't say I didn't enjoy seeing their shocked faces when we announced it was a boy. Hah
A frame for our sonogram photo. We put them up on the fridge, but not planning to keep them on display now that LO is here. Plus am I supposed to get another frame for the next kid? The frame sits empty. I appreciate the sentiment, but it's something I would never use and my mom, who gave it to us, knows I hate frames like that.
We got a plate that people are supposed to sign - it comes with some special markers to write on it. Then I guess you are supposed to display it like a memento. I'm definitely not the type to hang a plate full of signatures on my wall. And I just find it perplexing - like how does a dinner plate relate to a new baby?

That is a common wedding gift/ wedding shower guest book. Not a baby gift.

We still have our from DD in the living room. She likes to pick it up and look at it. Though I doubt she has any idea what it is.

I was touched that my mom's best friend's father built a little rocking horse for DS. However, the face he burned into it is hideous. It's in the back of the closet right now. I don't have the heart to get rid of it, but I don't want to look at it either.
The worst gifts for us are things he can't use for two years. Yes, I get that kids grow quickly, but clothes for a 2-3 year old will certainly not fit for over a year! We have a small house so finding a place to store stuff that is useless to us right now is a real pain. Not to mention we have seasonal clothing gifted to him that will never fit him during the appropriate season. Donation bins here we come!
