What was the strangest/worst gift?

What was the strangest or worst gift you were given for your LO? I know you should be grateful, and it's the thought that counts, but there has to be something you side-eyed.

For DS1 the little old neighbor lady at my parents' house bright up a Christmas gift.

Hand crocheted sweaters and booties... In lavender and white, with bows, flowers, and ribbons.

Don't know if it counts as a gift, but the in laws brought a bunch of DH's stuff from when he was little. I'm talking hideous knit/crocheted outfits, and things with his name on them (stocking, placemat). Our son is not jr, so not sure what to do with the labeled stuff. DH has already subjected him to a comparison pic of the two of them in these outfits. I will be sure he knows that pic is 100% daddy's fault!

Weve gotten some really ugly clothes. Which is fine except for they all came from family so we cant return them and they all came with comments like "isnt this the cutest thing ever!!" Um no. Its hideous

My Grammy bought our DS a hello kitty stuffed animal (it's only hello kitty's head on top of it) and it has a tie dye rainbow bow on its head. It was a shower gift and my loud mouth cousin on my husband's side made a comment "oh isn't that the cutest thing!" In the most sarcastic voice ever in front of everyone while I was opening it. I wanted to start laughing so hard because I felt the same way.

My dad's side of the family always buys the weirdest crap and they take all of the tags off everything! I just wish they would save their money and not buy me anything.

DH has a great uncle that feels like he has to bring a gift every time he visits. Well he decided to make a mobile for DS. The mobile consists of baby bottles, metal baby spoons and forks, and a lot of fishing line. It's hideous and in no way safe enough to put above the crib, but hey it's the thought that counts.

It's also a 50% chance he'll bring something pink and purple for him as well. Luckily I've been able to swap out a couple of the items he's brought by.

For DD1 we got crocheted booties which would have been adorable if they matched. They are obviously different from one another. Nothing weird so far for "this one".

someone my mom knows knitted a too small (for even a newborn or premie) sweater that my mom showed us then never actually gave us.
and then my mom bugged us for weeks to write a thank you note. to the random stranger.
however, another random stranger she knows gave us an awesome bag full of useful stuff.

Starting at about month 5 or 6, we started getting a lot of preemie stuff from family and coworkers, even though there wasn't any evidence of him coming prematurely. And then at my shower at month 9 we still received a lot of preemie diapers. For no reason. It just kept getting more and more upsetting the more it happened.

FIL tried to give us a phone system because DH isn't good with answering his phone. I really don't want a house phone for lots of reasons and I think FIL was somewhat pissed off when I flat out refused.

My coworker gave me leftover diaper pail bags from when her son was a baby...in 1985. WTF?! Who holds onto things like that? And she's a smoker, so they smelled like cigarette smoke. Yep, they got tossed.

gross! i left any gifts from a few certain people who chain smoke in their house and cars in the garage for weeks before washing, and a couple REwashing them.

Didn't have a shower this go round so not a much random stuff.
With older DD got lots of random stuff including a big blue bucket (like to put a keg in)
Nothing inside it just the bucket. Ah thanks

We did use it as sort of a cooler last summer. Only took three years to find a use for it.

I have rules with childrens clothing. No stupid/loud/obnoxious slogans, sayings, pictures, colors. It's well known. I think this is especially hard with little boy clothing. I got a couple onesie that violated this rule. I got a bright teal onesie that just read "Big Time Cutie." Um. No. Or another one that said "Mommy's First Mate" with a bunch of anchors. They went into the trash.

My husbandman is in the Navy. I got an INSANE amount of anchor and sailor clothing. Including the Mommy's First Mate outfit.

Thanks calliope not sure this is the kind of contest I want to win lol. I'll try and get a picture of it the next time we're at my inlaws. We were living there at the time and it seems I "accidentally" forgot it when we moved out.

To each their own, Im not knocking people who would dress their children in stuff like that. It just is not my style or taste. I don't wear stuff with sayings all over it, so I kind of figure if I wouldn't wear it, or DH wouldn't wear it, Im not putting my kid in it. Free or expensive.

For this baby: A christmas dress (red/green plaid taffeta) in size 3-6 months. By the time she fits in it, it'll probably be at least April. I'm guessing it was a re-gift, though I obviously don't know for sure.

Weirdest kids' gift ever: A soft, padded "helmet." I think it's for wrestling? It has no hard shell and can be easily bent/squished with your hands. It looks like it'd fit a pre-teen. DS was a 1 year old when he got it. (The giver thought it was a bicycle helmet. Um, yeah, that would be huge on DS and would offer almost no protection if he fell off his tricycle.)
